Just watched the first episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. What a treat! The tone is spot-on, and Dunk is just so darn genuine and lovable. I had very high expectations for whoever played this role, and I am already just so impressed by Peter Claffey.
@shakesofthrones and I had a great discussion about the archetypes of the seven as a prism for gender roles in Westeros. The Mother and the Maiden become roles that limit how Alicent and Rhaenyra are allowed to perform gender and how everyone (themselves included) see themselves!
I tend to think that Lady Macbeth is more the character who holds Macbeth by the hilt, until Shakespeare kills her off because she’s overpowering the storyline. But this is fantastic.
"Smallfolk" have found the Heart of the Dragon! @shakesofthrones joins to talk feminine character archetypes, including how they influence Rhaenyra and reveal the potential of Alys Rivers.

Recording Heart of Dragon with @shakesofthrones tonight! We're talking about feminine character archetypes, Rhaenyra's gender trouble, Alys River's witchy vibes, and the HAMLET of Daemon. Reply here or DM me with questions! (no promises that we'll have time)
A little late in my review—but I enjoyed S2E1 of #HotD. It felt a little clunky even for a table-setting episode, but that’s to be expected for the first episode after a season that had a lot of time jumps. Biggest issue for me was wondering how Jace grew out his hair so quickly-
@TheJoeMagician@ranabir_mitra Hey, we bought it and read it. And now the “well, actually” when it comes to catching stuff that wasn’t in the show but was in the book comes with it’s only side of “well, actually”. Brilliant.
@TheJoeMagician@ranabir_mitra Honestly, it was SUCH a clever move on GRRM’s part to write a book that was “written” by unreliable historians in-universe.
I have some more thoughts after rewatching S1 this week, mostly on the topic of loose words and how the nobles seem to be so reckless in who hears them. Eavesdroppers don’t even have to try. What an era of unbridled hot goss. But that will be for another post.
