My aunt once told me about a terrifying experience she had when she was seven months pregnant. She said she had been feeling uneasy for days—sharp abdominal pain, and bleeding that seemed heavier than normal—but every time she tried to reach her doctor, she was told it was probably nothing. Then one day, the pain got so bad she had to go to the hospital.

When she got there, the doctor—a man in his 50s—barely looked at her. He glanced at her chart, asked a couple of questions, and said, “This happens sometimes. Don’t worry—it’s just pregnancy cramps.” My aunt told me she felt like screaming. She said, “I was terrified, but he just waved me away. I kept thinking, ‘Am I overreacting?’ But I knew something was wrong.”

On the way home, the pain worsened and she started feeling dizzy. My uncle insisted they return to the hospital immediately. This time, the staff ran proper tests and discovered she had a placental abruption—her placenta had partially detached, putting both her life and the baby’s life at serious risk. She was rushed into emergency surgery. Both she and the baby survived, but she said the fear stayed with her for months.

She ended the story with a quiet, frustrated voice, telling me, “Being a woman sometimes means they don’t take your pain seriously. If I had trusted that first doctor, I might not even be telling you this story today.”

NEW: Man accused of killing his daughter's rapist is running for sheriff, the same office that arrested him last October.

Aaron Spencer of Lonoke County, Arkansas, says he is running because the legal system has "failed."

Back in 2024, Spencer woke up to find his 14-year-old daughter missing from her bed. There was a stuffed animal in a hoodie under her bed sheets.

According to court documents, Spencer then began searching the neighborhood and found his daughter in a car with 67-year-old Michael Fosler.

Spencer chased the car down and drove it off the road before shooting and killing Fosler.

Fosler was facing over 40 child s*x crime charges involving Spencer's daughter when he was shot.

According to Spencer's wife, their daughter was "targeted, groomed and ultimately raped by the boyfriend of a family friend."

"I’m the father who acted to protect his daughter when the system failed," Spencer said.

"Through my own fight for justice, I have seen firsthand the failures in law enforcement and in our circuit court. And, I refuse to stand by while others face these same failures."
