Sharing insider trends behind the music industry | Packing dancefloors at every event | DJ for 25+ years | Spun for The Kardashians, 50 Cent, Taylor Swift
This account exists to help you be a full time DJ.
I’m a DJ for over 25 years and have been full time for more than half of that. I’ve spun for celebrities like Alicia Keys, 50 Cent, and the Kardashians; brands like Marriott, LVMH, and Adidas; and NYT best-sellers, Major League Athletes, and award-winning Actors.
My experience as a DJ, actor, producer, musical director, and former adjunct lecturer at USC’s School of Dramatic Arts gives me a perspective 99.9% of DJs/producers don’t have.

I get reminders that success is in the boring and repetitive. We execute and then adjust and then execute and then adjust.
This is the (unsexy) way to move forward in any career, but especially so in DJing.
@CoachThisath True to virality ≠ booked!
Clear offers can close the gap, but with a service like music, I think there is a bit more to help close the gap.
On Monday, I spent a good amount of time talking to DJs about social media and their gigs.
One of the common themes that came up was about how to get more gigs through Instagram.
The main question was, “Can social media actually get me booked?”
I know it can.
It’s happened to me.
I’ve seen it happen for other DJs too.
One DJ I worked with before shared how she was getting multiple bookings through her Instagram profile. She would get DM’d often.
It’s definitely possible.
But here’s what’s interesting…
On Monday’s call, another DJ shared that one of their posts went viral.
They got more followers, lots of views, and more attention.
But they got no new gigs.
Same platform. Different outcomes.
Why?
Because you're probably making the same mistake about how you approach your socials.
Let me show what the problem is and a different approach here:

There is DJ software out there that has DFY services for playlists.
(DFY = Done For You)
They provide the crates they say “work for all occasions.”
I’m not a fan, because none of the Great DJs ever used DFY crates.
They figured out what works on their own.
They played the hits and misses.
They developed their own style.
And they became stronger DJs for it.
If everyone is using the same crates, then everyone is sounding the same.
Be your own DJ!
