You know that pit in your stomach when you’re among a new group of people or during a job interview and you’re asked what your hobbies are? It seems like a simple, straightforward question but for those of us who don’t collect anything or know how to knit, it’s quite traumatizing. 

I was always so jealous of people who were so passionate about something that they use their free time to do what makes them happy. I remember talking to my boss at work one day. She was very into antiques and had a business on the side. As I listened to her speak about her process of buying and re-selling antiques, I could feel the joy radiating out of her as she spoke, and all of a sudden I found myself welling up with tears. I realized in this moment two things — how envious I was of anyone who was so passionate about ANYTHING, and what a failure I felt like for living my whole life without this. 

It took me many years after this moment to realize that I did have a passion for something, but wasn’t utilizing it in the right ways. I’ve always loved fashion and putting together outfits, and this past summer I finally decided to start sharing my ideas publicly. This journey for me is not fueled by notoriety, or money, or clout. This is the hobby I’ve been searching for. This is driven by pure passion and that’s what keeps me going.

I will always look back on 2024 and remember it as the year i found my hobby ��👚📸
