Yes! School choice will weed out the riff raff for all institutions and educators. Putting parents in the driver seat is the way to get administrators who have no stake in their children’s future out of the way! Looking at what other states are doing well and copying them ( e.g. Mississippi going back to phonics for reading).
Well, that’s quite a common argument/assumption. But from what I’ve observed, they might have social skills with their own age group, but much is desired when dealing with all age groups, which is more important as they enter “real” life. I could attach research papers and such about the benefits of homeschooling in comparison to public school “educated”, but I’m sure you could look that up yourself. But from personal experience as a high school tutor here, PPS is defrauding these students.
That’s the problem, once big government gets involved, it’s nearly impossible to get them out. If they didn’t get involved with promoting single motherhood or requiring parents to both work (thanks, feminism *sarcarsm*) or the pushing the need for workers/soldiers (adopting the Prussian school model). There would be no need for public school. So in a way, you are right. Is it right? No.
@elranchosumdayo@davidmedinapdx That’s awesome that your grandson is thriving! The best person to teach is someone who knows him best! Glad you aren’t in Oregon… I tutor high school students from the “good” schools here & PPS is an absolute embarrassment; they aren’t teaching these kids anything.
Yeah, so… thanks for be condescending and not actually reading my comment or even reading between the lines. I said that they all need to fired and curriculum replaced. And homeschool is and should be considered an option.
In plain English, school choice, complete reform + accountability.
Well, that’s the fallacy in your logic… mail-in voting means that the people’s vote doesn’t count or even matter in Oregon. Salem does whatever they want when they want and there’s nothing that the activist governor will do about it. Everything that the hippies worked for is gone
@GeoffreyHuntley Yeah, I get it… honestly it’s probably something they could do but don’t want to. I work on/brainstorm and read repos on the go all the time, but use notion to track until I can get to my computer. Extra steps sucks.
@WalkerAmerica I can’t tell you how many times I get the comment “Your child won’t have social skills”
Then I proceed to ask them if they have a problem with how my little 4 year old interacts with them… and then they respond “well it’s still important”. 😒 🙄
In Germany it’s ILLEGAL to homeschool your kids…
Why?
Because Hitler’s 1938 compulsory public school mandate, or Reichsschulpflichtgesetz, is still in effect to this day…
Whenever you see people say “homeschooling should be illegal” show them this…
