@vprnet While Eric raised some good points, it was concerning to hear him describe school shootings as “rare”. National numbers are one thing, but with events in past years so locally in Essex, Walpole NH, and this week at Montpelier HS, it isn’t feeling “rare” at all.

@danfrench: As a parent @U32 I get letters every week that we are having "crazy hair day" "costume day" "ECO" - whatever. The bottom line is, my kids are interested in learning, invested in their communities, and as a parent, I will do whatever the schools asks. Even masks.

I find it revealing when people mock where I came from, & say they’re going to “send me back to waitressing,” as if that is bad or shameful.

It’s as though they think being a member of Congress makes you intrinsically “better” than a waitress.

But our job is to serve, not rule.

This is a great point. When we are gushing about amazing YA books and showing that they are valuable to us as adult readers, we make kids see their reading as something worthwhile. Love the conversations this can lead to outside of book clubs and guided reading, too!

Today we tried a “selfie-assessment” booth (with props!) in math. Kids used a rubric to describe their ability level with fractions so far. Results were informative AND adorable. @mrpsvt @HeratyRyan @Bonesteelvt
