This was not me going cold turkey. It’s been a slow (yet obvious) progression for me, and it’s visible in my IG posts (linked in bio) as well. I hope to get back to reading more history, because I do love it (as mentioned in an earlier part of this thread). But I needed a break.
Okay, so…it’s been a hot minute on my end here. But I’m back for now. Twitter’s always been hit-or-miss with me, but I am hoping to be a bit more interactive here. (We’ll see how that goes.)
I have TOTALLY revamped my whole look when it comes to my bookstagram (@/shannasbookshelf), and that will be reflected here. While I loved reading history [nonfiction] and mythology (and still do), I just needed a clean break.
I want my prospective History undergrads to read at least one medieval History book over the summer. Recommendations please - I already have Ian Mortimer's TTG on the list, and Marc Morris' work...
Also note: when I say “backdrops” to my photos, I mean the book-related backgrounds you see my photo overlaying. I’ve attached two of the backdrops you will (or have) seen in my posts.
Hi everyone! I’m asking that you all take a moment to check out my linktree, which is the link when you go to my profile. The first 5 links are where you can go to support the #BlackLivesMatter#BLM movement - please go check these ones out and to support the movement.
The last 5 links are more related to my account. 4 of them are my social media - this account, my #bookstagram, my blog, and my reading playlists on YouTube. The last link is where I get a lot of the backdrops for my photos (and my profile photo).
Many of us in #Egyptology have been asked 'What's the point? Surely there's nothing left to find, and we know everything about it? Doesn't seem important'. If you're looking for responses to accompany your eye rolling, here's a non-exhaustive list.

New game: If you're at an #Egyptology conference, ask one of us young sorts about the figures of the field who most inspire us, and watch as we try desperately not to say "well it's between librarian Evie, drunk Evie, 'take that Bembridge Scholars' Evie..." #AcademicTwitter
