वेळच सांगते माणसाची किंमत..!

एखाद्या व्यक्तीचं महत्त्व ती आपल्या आसपास असताना फारसं जाणवत नाही. कारण तिचं अस्तित्व आपल्याला सवयीचं झालेलं असतं. पण जेव्हा ती व्यक्ती बाजूला होते, तेव्हा तिच्यामुळे उभं राहिलेलं संपूर्ण जग हलायला लागतं. त्यानंतरच लक्षात येतं की आधार कोणाचा होता आणि सावली कोणाची होती.

राजकारणातही हेच घडतं..काही नेते निवडणुका जिंकतात, काही सरकारं चालवतात; पण काही मोजकीच माणसं अशी असतात जी समाजातील विविध घटकांना सत्तेशी जोडून ठेवतात. त्यांची ताकद भाषणात नसते, तर नात्यांत असते. त्यांच्याकडे पदापेक्षा विश्वास मोठा असतो. अजित पवार यांच्याबद्दल बोलायचं झालं, तर त्यांचं राजकारण केवळ मंत्रालयापुरतं मर्यादित नव्हतं. त्यांची खरी ताकद गावागावातील संस्थांमध्ये, सहकाराच्या रचनेत, स्थानिक नेतृत्वात आणि कार्यकर्त्यांच्या विश्वासात होती. त्यामुळे त्यांच्या निर्णयाचा परिणाम एका पक्षापुरता मर्यादित राहणार नाही; त्याचे पडसाद अनेक स्तरांवर उमटतील.

आज अनेकांना वाटेल की राजकारणात कोणीही अपरिहार्य नसतं. ते खरंही आहे. पण प्रत्येकाची जागा सारखी नसते. काही जण जागा भरतात, तर काही जण संपूर्ण व्यवस्था सांभाळतात. अशी माणसं गेली की रिकामी खुर्ची दिसत नाही; रिकामं झालेलं जाळं दिसायला वेळ लागतो. ग्रामीण महाराष्ट्राचं राजकारण समजणारी नेतृत्वं दिवसेंदिवस कमी होत आहेत. निर्णय घेणारी केंद्रं शहरांकडे सरकत आहेत. अशा काळात गाव, शेतकरी, सहकार आणि स्थानिक समाजरचना यांची भाषा सत्तेपर्यंत पोहोचवणारे चेहरे कमी झाले, तर त्याची जाणीव आज नाही, पण उद्या नक्की होईल.

इतिहास सांगतो की मोठ्या नेत्यांची उणीव त्यांच्या जाण्याच्या दिवशी जाणवत नाही; ती पुढची पिढी अनुभवते. कारण त्या व्यक्तीबरोबर अनेक कार्यकर्त्यांचे मार्ग, अनेक संस्थांची ताकद आणि अनेक समाजघटकांचा आत्मविश्वासही कमी झालेला असतो.

कदाचित काही वर्षांनी महाराष्ट्र मागे वळून पाहील आणि विचारेल आपण फक्त एक नेता गमावला होता की एक संपूर्ण राजकीय आधारव्यवस्था..?

In 1997, this man was the ABVP National Secretary and was just about to join the Bharatiya Janata Party. There was a paper leak in Odisha and there was a major protest. This man participated in them. He was beaten by the police.

"We staged a protest against the Odisha government, in front of the secretariat. Around 1,500 students joined us there. While the protest was peaceful, the police charged against the activists. He was badly beaten up at that time. He had a few fractures too."

Who is he? Mr Dharmendra Pradhan. Imagine that Dharmendra Pradhan was protesting against paper leaks in 1997 and was beaten!

There is an amazing Indian Express article about him. Linked below. The irony? One of the interviewees says:

"under Pradhan's regime, the students will have more scope for dissent. "It is natural for students to be anti-establishment."
