CM D.K. Shivakumar Appeals to Farmers Not to Sow Crops, Calls Emergency Cabinet Meeting on Drought

Chief Minister @DKShivakumar has convened an emergency Cabinet meeting on Sunday to review the worsening drought situation across Karnataka, as the state braces for a severe water crisis following deficient rainfall.

Ahead of the Cabinet meeting, the @CMofKarnataka will hold a meeting with all Deputy Commissioners and Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officers to assess the ground situation, review preparedness and discuss immediate drought mitigation measures across districts.

Making a strong appeal to #farmers, Shivakumar urged them not to take up sowing this season, stating that the available water in reservoirs is being conserved exclusively for drinking purposes. He noted that Karnataka is also under pressure to manage water releases from the Cauvery and Tungabhadra reservoirs in view of interstate water-sharing obligations.

Responding to a question on whether the Union government had acted on his letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a central drought assessment, Shivakumar said no response has been received so far. He added that he would write to the Prime Minister again, urging the Centre to depute a team to assess the drought situation in the state.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (#KPCC) President B.K. Hariprasad has sharply criticized the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (#RSS), branding its three-day Prant Pracharak meeting in #Belagavi as a “public relations exercise” aimed at deflecting attention from allegations of financial irregularities in the #RamMandir at Ayodhya.

Speaking to reporters in #Bengaluru, BK Hariprasad alleged that the RSS and Bharatiya Janata Party (#BJP) were attempting to “rebrand” themselves amid mounting scrutiny. “The RSS meeting is only to give a fresh image to the RSS and BJP after the loot of Ayodhya’s treasury,” he charged.The KPCC chief claimed that over ₹200 crore had been misappropriated in the temple project, accusing those involved of exploiting even sacred texts. “They have not spared even the #TulsiRamcharitmanas, which was inscribed on silver and gold booklets,” Hariprasad said.

The remarks come against the backdrop of intensifying political sparring in #Karnataka, with #Congress leaders stepping up attacks on the RSS and BJP over transparency and accountability in the #Ayodhya trust’s financial dealings.
