There’s something so exciting about brand new teachers’ classrooms and watching them get it ready all summer long. So much wonder. So much self-drive. So much innocence.

The sad part is when we see a new teacher lose that because they don’t feel supported during their first year.

Support your new teachers.
🔺Check on them daily.
🔸Model lessons for them.
🔺Provide them an automatic coaching cycle with the instructional coach on day 1.
🔸Provide specific feedback.
🔺Model the first phone call home.
🔸Pre-plan their first parent conf and do it with them.
🔺Simply ask, “How can I help?” And ask often.

Teachers will be more likely to stay in the profession when they feel supported. Plain and simple.

If the students are doing most of the talking today, chances are they are learning.

A long, hard look in the mirror moment...

If more & more kids are falling behind, not growing, under achieving, not "getting it," that's the sign to look at Tier 1.

Don't look at the performance of the learners.
Look at the preparation of the learning.

Tiers 2 & 3 are a direct reflection of how effective your Tier 1 is working.

Design Tier 1 so that it is all is should be for learners & teachers.

It's the only way things change.

If we provide the same Tier 1 learning & remain frustrated w/ Tiers 2 & 3 seeming to increase, maybe it's time to stop & study what is (& isn't) working.

Stop the "tried & true" not showing results.
Start designing intentional impact on learning

Homework does little to improve achievement and can actually have negative effects, especially at elementary level. Recess however has many positive effects such as improved self regulation of emotions, improved interpersonal skills and focus! And should never be taken away.
