I think it would be wise for Conservatives to focus on why Mexico isn't facing new tariffs—not because Mexico has a smaller trade imbalance with the U.S. (it doesn't, it's four times larger than Canada's), but because Mexico chose quiet dealmaking over public defiance, and got a materially better outcome for it.

That's the actual lesson here, and it's a better argument than 'unjustified and wrong,' which is the same victim framing Liberals have been running all year.

Give credit where it's due: unblocking pipelines, a real Strategic Energy Reserve, a Tariff-Free Auto Pact... those are specific, leverage-building policies, and they're on the right track.

But leading with 'Canadians deserve better treatment from our neighbours' undercuts the entire point.

You don't build leverage by asking to be treated better. You build it by being the kind of partner (or the kind of competitor) the other side actually has to take seriously. Mexico figured that out. It's time we did too and started acting like victors instead of victims.

Canada has what the world wants... and our Liberal government would rather look like they're fighting something than to actually fix it. Cut through that noise, and you're off to the races.

No, Canada won the lottery being right next to the largest economy in the world and selling to them with the best trade deal in the world.

The problem is that we squandered it all with red tape and lack of ambition to do anything and build anything ourselves.
We got so used to thinking we can just make more money off the US which gave us the false confidence that we can solve the world's problems with carbon tax, mass immigrating refugees and virtue signaling.

In other words, Canada became delusional, ungrateful and complacent.
