Advice from an older EP. Once a pt has registered you have a duty of care. Telling them they shouldn’t be in ED destroys the therapeutic relationship so don’t do it. After you have sorted out their problem then by all means advise them where they could go next time.

The RAH ED has 55 patients in this ED waiting for a bed, FMC ED has 43 patients waiting for a bed. Time for yet another safety inspection.

Staff are leaving or want to leave. It just not worth risking having to answer to AHPRA when the inevitable deaths and poor outcomes occur from understaffing. It’s a death spiral for the health system.

Wake-up everyone who should be assisting frontline health clinicians in the ED. Called in for a safety inspection LMH. 90 patients in the ED with a capacity of 51 and 43 patients waiting to be seen totally unsafe is the advice of Drs but don’t really need o state the obvious.

Operating an Emergency Department at 200% capacity makes it impossible for staff to deliver care to critically ill patients & for patients to get the care they need. Just so dangerous yet nothing effective is done. 💔 @PictonChris

At 5:19pm yesterday a 47yo male suffering chest pain pulled over & called 000 in Plympton. After 35m the patient was in cardiac arrest, a bystander started CPR. An ambulance finally arrived after 40m, tragically Paramedics were unable to resuscitate him.

Ramping and significant access block at the RAH ED - 59 patients waiting for a free bed and some agitation this morning. Systemwide was 141 patients waiting in the EDs for beds - stress levels high.

Hospitals lack the same operational capacity for high acuity patients. Just not enough doctors. Doctor recruitment is blocked by hospital executives who seem to think a white board to write issues on is sufficient for this problem.

What infuriates me (and always has) is that players will boycott over a rainbow but never boycott a teammate if he's been accused of violence against women or any other morally reprehensible behaviour that they would all agree they don't condone. I do not understand it.
