San Antonio, Texas - "Smoke" has been at City of San Antonio Animal Care Services (ACS) for only three days, and he is already facing euthanasia simply because there isn't enough kennel space. At just 3 years old, this medium-sized Shepherd mix is overwhelmed by the shelter, not giving up on life.

Smoke's behavior notes paint the picture of a frightened dog trying to make sense of an unfamiliar world. He walks easily on a leash, allows other dogs to approach appropriately, and seeks comfort by staying close to handlers he trusts. Evaluators noted signs of under-socialization, not aggression. In the play yard, Smoke entered with a tucked tail and tense body, choosing to lie near staff members rather than explore. He communicated when he needed space, showing he is a thoughtful dog who simply needs patience, understanding, and a quiet place to decompress.

A disturbing incident has been reported from Rohtak where a woman engaged in feeding and caring for community animals was allegedly subjected to months of harassment, online abuse, intimidation, and ultimately a physical assault by a large group of residents.

According to complaints submitted to authorities, tensions reportedly escalated after repeated objections were raised against the feeding and care of community dogs. The caregiver alleges that abusive messages were circulated, attempts were made to stop the feeding of animals, water bowls for animals were removed, and a hostile atmosphere was created against those showing compassion to stray animals.

The situation allegedly culminated in a mob assault, resulting in injuries, damage to personal property, and the filing of a police complaint.

⚖️ These allegations are true, this is not merely an attack on one individual.

It is an attack on every citizen who lawfully helps injured, hungry, and vulnerable animals.

Article 51A(g) of the Constitution of India places a fundamental duty upon citizens to show compassion towards living creatures.

❓ Why are animal caregivers increasingly facing threats and violence?
❓ Why are citizens helping animals being targeted?
❓ Are witnesses and complainants receiving adequate protection?

We respectfully urge:

▪️ Immediate protection for the complainant and family
▪️ Preservation of CCTV footage and electronic evidence
▪️ Fair and impartial investigation of all allegations
▪️ Action against anyone found responsible for assault, intimidation, or harassment
▪️ Protection of lawful animal feeding and welfare activities

No citizen should fear violence for offering food and water to a hungry animal.

Compassion is not a crime.
