Monday (7/27): New day, same quantitative framework. Here, I’m plotting every pitcher by how hittable they are (WHIP) against how good the opposing offense is (OPS). It’s easy to read:

Top-right: if a team is listed here, it means their starting pitcher today is weak and they face a dangerous lineup. You can take advantage of that.
Tonight, Toronto starts Scherzer (1-4, 10.23 ERA, 1.73 WHIP) and they sit alone in the smash-spot corner. The Nationals batters (facing TOR) are worth a close look (Abrams, Wood, etc have been on fire recently). Yankees (vs. CWS) and SF (vs. MIL) batters are also worthy of consideration.

Continue to watch Murakami moving forward. He doesn’t just perform on his bobblehead day — He’s a rare talent with a >50% hard hit rate, >10% barrel rate, and a top percentile contact quality. He’s a great 2 HRR (hits + runs + rbi) play most days. And if you bet on lasers on FanDuel (home runs with an exit velocity of 105+ mph), he’s almost always a candidate for that. #MLB #WhiteSox

One way to approach hitter props starts with the pitcher. Two things matter: strikeouts and damage allowed on contact.

Tonight’s starters, plotted. Upper left = pitchers that don’t strike anyone out and give up volume. Target batters on these teams: COL, SD, LAA, MIN, OAK, CIN.

Bottom right is the fade zone. TOR, HOU, NYY limit damage. Different night entirely.
