@ChrisPolo__@49ers Lmao either one of them aren’t going anywhere. They took a shot and missed. Ignoring the other bullseyes they’ve landed is complete horseshit.
I’ve seen a lot of people complain about Kyle’s ago being to big.
Is it tho?
The guy is willing to swallow his pride and take the L and cut his losses on a guy he spent a lot of draft capitol on.
That takes guts, many coaches try to force it and set the franchise back.
#49ers
The draft is game of darts. Teams try to hit the bullseye as often as possible. Early-round picks come from closer range; later-round picks come from further away — so the probability of hitting early-round picks is higher.
The 49ers might've missed on the Trey Lance pick with #3, although one can't fairly say that without noting the fractures that derailed his development twice.
But the 49ers took several steps back from the dart board a year later with Pick #262, and it appears they might've nailed the bullseye from the longest range possible — Brock Purdy, at Mr. Irrelevant.
When the dust settles, history won't care which dart throw netted the 49ers that bullseye. In fact, down the road — if Purdy keeps delivering — the bullseye with Pick #262 will be especially appreciated because of how unlikely it was.
We have the pain of football (Lance's lost opportunity due to injuries) and the glory of it (Purdy's against-the-odds emergence) wrapped into one here. It's a beautiful sport, but it isn't for the faint of heart.
Bullseyes are bullseyes. It's time to see how Purdy does in Year 2, to see if the 49ers' pick of him truly was one 🎯
We're going to have a lot of "49ers messed up with Trey Lance" takes..
But we shouldn't forget that the 49ers gave the keys to Trey Lance last offseason, named him QB1, gave him all the training camp + preseason reps and he didn't reward them with unwavering confidence either..
