☠️ BLACK SMOKE OVER TEHRAN
🚨 Tehran woke today under a sky drowned in black smoke after Israeli strikes ignited oil depots and refinery infrastructure.
Residents described something surreal.
Black rain falling from the sky — oily, sticky, toxic.
But when a refinery burns, it is not simply a fire.
It becomes a chemical battlefield in the atmosphere.
Oil refineries are among the most toxic industrial complexes on Earth, operating 24/7 across facilities the size of hundreds of football fields.
When they ignite, they release a lethal industrial cocktail into the air.
➤ More than 180 industrial chemicals can be released during refinery fires and explosions.
Among the most dangerous:
• Benzene — a highly carcinogenic compound linked to leukemia.
• Toluene & Xylene — neurotoxins damaging the brain and nervous system.
• Formaldehyde & acetaldehyde — respiratory toxins and cancer-causing agents.
• Hydrofluoric acid — one of the most lethal chemicals used in refining.
⚠️ Hydrofluoric acid can form a dense ground-hugging toxic vapor cloud traveling kilometers, capable of destroying lungs and internal organs within minutes.
➜ PM2.5 particulate pollution explodes during refinery fires.
These particles are 30 times thinner than a human hair.
They penetrate the lungs ➜ enter the bloodstream ➜ and even reach the brain through the olfactory nerve.
Medical research links PM2.5 exposure to:
• lung cancer
• cardiovascular disease
• strokes
• Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s
• asthma attacks in children
• low birth weight and infant mortality
📊 Fossil-fuel PM2.5 pollution contributes to hundreds of thousands of premature deaths every year worldwide.
➤➤ Nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur oxides (SOx) released during refinery combustion inflame the respiratory system and reduce lung function.
In the atmosphere they react with water vapor and oxygen to produce:
ACID RAIN
Acid rain destroys:
• crops and forests
• soil ecosystems
• agricultural productivity
• historic monuments and infrastructure.
➡️ These gases also generate ground-level ozone, a toxic smog formed when NOx and volatile organic compounds react with sunlight.
Ozone chemically attacks lung tissue and weakens resistance to infections.
➤ Oil refining is a major pollution engine.
📊 Globally, oil processing releases about 15% of all volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the atmosphere.
These pollutants spread rapidly across cities, coastlines and entire regions within hours.
🌍 THE MIDDLE EAST REFINERY BELT
The strategic dimension is enormous.
The Middle East is the heart of the global energy system, and the GCC hosts the most concentrated refining and storage infrastructure on Earth.
📊 GCC REFINERY & DEPOT NETWORK (2026)
➤ The region operates 30+ mega-refineries and hundreds of strategic storage depots, processing roughly 10–12 million barrels of crude oil per day.
🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia
• ~11 major refineries (Ras Tanura, Jubail, Yanbu, Jazan)
• 6.6+ million barrels/day capacity
🇦🇪 United Arab Emirates
• ~8 major refining hubs
• Ruwais refinery ~837,000 barrels/day
• Fujairah hosts one of the world’s largest oil storage hubs with 100+ tank farms
🇰🇼 Kuwait
• Mina Abdullah, Mina Al-Ahmadi and Al-Zour refinery (~615,000 bpd)
🇶🇦 Qatar
• Mesaieed and Ras Laffan refineries
• plus two of the world’s largest Gas-to-Liquids plants
🇴🇲 Oman
• Sohar, Mina Al-Fahal and the Duqm refinery complex
🇧🇭 Bahrain
• Sitra refinery, undergoing major expansion.
➜ The Gulf energy corridor exports nearly one-third of global seaborne oil.
➜ Roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply moves daily through the Strait of Hormuz.
➜ Nearly 25% of global maritime oil trade passes through this narrow waterway.
These refineries sit next to dense cities, coastlines and strategic shipping lanes.
⚠️ One strike does not only disrupt energy.
It can poison entire coastlines.
➤ Refinery pollution contaminates water and soil with heavy metals:
• mercury
• arsenic
• cadmium
• chromium
• nickel
• lead
Many remain in ecosystems for centuries.
➜ Refineries worldwide discharge hundreds of millions of gallons of contaminated wastewater every day.
That equals more than 700 Olympic swimming pools daily.
Toxic runoff contains:
• petroleum residues
• cyanide
• nitrogen compounds that trigger algae blooms and destroy aquatic life.
➤ Industrial refinery disasters are not rare.
Regulators estimate around 150 catastrophic chemical accidents occur every year in major industrial facilities.
Examples include:
🔥 2019 Philadelphia refinery explosion — hydrofluoric acid vapor cloud released
🔥 2015 ExxonMobil Torrance refinery blast — toxic dust spread across Los Angeles
🔥 2005 BP Texas City disaster — 15 workers killed, 180 injured
Now imagine such an event not as an accident — but as a deliberate strike in a city of millions.
➤ Tehran alone has over 9 million residents.
➜ Pollution plumes from refinery fires can travel hundreds of kilometers with prevailing winds, affecting entire regions.
Smoke ignores borders.
Chemistry ignores politics.
Missiles destroy infrastructure.
But refinery fires release something far more dangerous.
Invisible damage.
Damage measured not in explosions—
but in lungs, bloodstreams, rivers, soil and generations yet unborn.
Refinery wars do not only destroy cities.
They poison entire regions.
If refinery strikes spread across the Middle East, the skies above major cities could fill with vast chemical clouds of benzene, sulfur dioxide and toxic particulate pollution.
Industrial fires could burn for days.
Oil and chemical waste could spill into the Persian Gulf.
Desalination plants that supply drinking water to millions could be threatened.
At that point the war would no longer be measured in missiles.
It would be measured in poisoned air, contaminated seas and cities slowly suffocating under toxic skies.
Because once the smoke spreads—
there are no borders left to defend.
⚠️
War burns oil in hours.
But the poison it releases can haunt generations.
The greatest victory humanity can achieve
is the war that never begins.
@HassanAbbasian@AJavedOfficial@TheRealPCB Kindly misguide na kare logo ko phale hi log poorani baatein bhul jate hai jo team mai gand kare ga wo bhar hoga her game ya job mai professionalism matter karta hai usse apni game pay focus karna chayiee nake kesi hemayat karne ajai

1/ Today's 🧵is about "VT" versus "SVT with aberrancy".
The aim of this thread is to provide basic tips on how to apply some of the most used criteria that might be helpful in diagnosing VT. #CardioTwitter
Note that the following features are suggestive of VT, but their absence does not exclude VT.

DKA vs HHS
🔹Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)🔹
Absolute (or near-absolute).
insulin deficiency, resulting in
•Severe hyperglycemia
•Ketone body production
•Systemic acidosis
-Develops over hours to 1-2 days
-Most common in type 1 diabetes, but increasingly seen in type 2 diabetes
🔹Hyperglycemic Hyperosmolar State (HHS)🔹
Severe relative insulin deficiency, resulting in
•Profound hyperglycemia and hyperosmolality (from urinary free water losses)
•No significant ketone production or acidosis
-Develops over days to weeks
-Typically presents in type 2 or previously unrecognized diabetes
-Higher mortality rate
