As a global LPG crunch sends urban living costs into a tailspin and migrants head back home, we speak to them to understand the reality of returning to their villages during the dry, lean summer months.
Most of them migrated as they either had very small land holdings or depended solely on rain fed agriculture.
With agricultural work currently non-existent and rural savings depleted, these workers are trading the impossible costs of the city for a different kind of uncertainty at home. They find themselves caught between a fuel crisis they cannot afford and a rural economy that has no work to offer them until the monsoons arrive.
