What scores are the AI Researchers (the creators) obtaining on the Humanityโs Last Exam (HLE)?
I have received this question from many quarters.
Well, well, the AI researchers are scoring at most 3% but mostly way below 3%
Why?
Because these AI researchers are not necessarily the smartest people in the world.
They are just researchers who happen to be working in the AI field.
Think about it this way:
Setting the HLE simply means COLLECTING PhD-level questions on EVERY subject ever studied.
You donโt have to be smart to do that.
You donโt have to know the answers to the questions you collect.
You simply collect questions from experts in various subject areas.
Of course, after collecting the questions, if you take the HLE, you will probably only pass the questions in your domain of expertise (if at all you pass).
For example, an AI researcher who is a smart PhD or Professor in Electrical Engineering might do well on PhD-level Electrical Engineering questions, but will fail to answer PhD-level questions in Economics, Chemistry, Geography, Biology, Medicine, English Literature, Finance, Law, Agriculture, Mathematics, Veterinary Science, etc.
That smart PhD or Professor in EE might even fail to comprehend the PhD-level questions provided by experts outside his/her area of expertise, much less answer the questions.
The answers to the HLE are provided by the (say a 1000) DIFFERENT experts, not the AI researchers.
Collecting questions and loading them into an AI system does not make you understand or be able to solve them.
You can only potentially answer questions in your domain of expertise.
An AI system programmed using knowledge from 1,000 experts from 1,000 different fields will perform much better than any single expert, who is likely to be an expert in only one field.
This is why Grok 4 can score 44.4% and the smartest person in the world cannot go beyond 3%.
The HLE is graded by the 1000 DIFFERENT human experts (who provide the answers), not the AI researchers.
Every smart human being is scoring a maximum of 3% including the AI researchers.
In fact, most of the AI researchers are scoring way below 2%.
Because, they are not the smartest people in the world.
Thanks
AGO Mutambara
Some of us donโt delve into politics, we are basically Zimbabwean farmers.
Instead, politics find us and deal with us the manner ZESA does.
All we want is support as farmers, not big government contracts. Is that too much to ask?
Farmers are suffocating, we need relief.
On 20 March, our farm will reach 3 continuous months without power, not even for an hour.
ZESA hide behind faults as reason for us having no power.
Other things being equal, this farm alone produces at least 2,500tons (half a silo) of wheat in a good season.
ZESA, why ?????
@gura_collen Too much fantasy, very little understanding of what it takes to make agriculture tick... This is what happens when incompetence leads or rather commands bumper harvests.. hazvibude!
New Book Publication Announcement
Design and Analysis of Control Systems:
Driving the Fourth Industrial Revolution
By Prof. Arthur G.O. Mutambara
As the AI Revolution continues, all sectors of the economy are affected, and no aspect of society is spared.
The content of education and platforms for teaching, learning and research are dramatically affected across all academic disciplines.
Engineering education is no exception.
Specifically, the curriculum for Control Systems (A key subject in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Chemical Engineering) must be radically changed.
In addition to traditional MATLAB techniques, newer computer-aided Design (CAD) methods now exist, such as Simulink Control Design, LabVIEW, SPICE-Based Simulation Software, SimPowerSystems, Stateflow, and Mathcad.
More significantly, a new and transformative field has emerged: AI-Based Design and Analysis of Control Systems.
This has been a game-changer in the development, teaching, research and application of control systems methods.
Furthermore, advanced and fascinating AI and Control Systems applications have been conceived.
These include unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), driverless cars, autonomous mining vehicles, intelligent fleet management systems, robotic farm equipment;
Space Vehicles such as:
Space Xโs Falcon 9 rocket,
China's Chang'e-4 spacecraft,
Japanese Moon Lander,
India's Chandrayaan-3 Moon Lander,
Russiaโs Luna 25 (Soyuz-2.1b/Fregat),
Intuitive Machines' Nova-C Lander (Odysseus);
And Advanced Robots such as:
Boston Dynamicsโ Atlas,
Hondaโs ASIMO,
Hanson Roboticsโ Sophia,
Teslaโs Optimus (Tesla Bot),
Artistic Humanoid โ Ai-Da.
Indeed, business as usual cannot be maintained in the field of Control Systems Engineering.
There is a need for reimagination and thought leadership.
The new book (770 pages), โDesign and Analysis of Control SystemsโDriving the Fourth Industrial Revolution,โ was written within this context.
It is published by the Taylor & Francis Group (CRC Press) - Routledge.

Zimbabwe is lucky to have sharp engineering minds like Prof Arthur Mutambara, the question is do we understand what this means for us as citizens and for our country?
Prof Mutambara has a new book coming out titled;
Design and Analysis of Control Systems
Driving the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
I hope it will trigger the all important discussion of Artificial Intelligence which has not been at the fore in Zimbabwe.
I have seen some Zimbabweans mocking those who are using AI, that is how backward we are because AI is meant to make our lives easier, it is the new technological frontier.
Well done to Prof @amutambara for this new book, I look forward to reading it and I hope that journalists will have the courage to read such books and break them down for the masses who consume their products.
Knowledge is power, and this is how others who read are able to talk about many issues but then end up being sadly mocked for supposedly pretending to know everything.
A man who doesnโt read and knows very little will attempt to reduce everyone to their level by shaming those who read!
Donโt be afraid to open books, that is how we will kill the mass ignorance that has destroyed our ability to engage meaningfully without insults, BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS matter!
Let us read these books in order to stimulate new and interesting educational conversations about AI and its potentially revolutionary benefits to how we live!
I also hope that those who seek public office will read these all important books in order to understand how the new world works and not base politics on nothing but just populist slogans devoid of real scientific content.
To those in government, read those books, they will help you see clearly and not make fools of yourselves when attending international conferences or engaging with folks like Elon Musk!
