Legal Counsel, Uza. Fazeela A. Shaheem, and Environment Analyst, Ms. Fathimath Shamra, represented the Maldives at the 2nd Informal In-Person Meeting of Heads of Delegation of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) on Plastic Pollution, being held in Bangkok.

In this meeting, the Maldives highlighted the disproportionate and transboundary impacts of plastic pollution on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and called for the special circumstances and vulnerabilities of SIDS to be not only acknowledged, but meaningfully reflected and operationalized in the final treaty text.
The meeting focused on conceptual discussions on various provisions of the treaty, with countries working towards convergence to finalize the treaty in the upcoming fourth part of the fifth session of the INC in March 2027.

State Minister Abdul Razak Ibrahim attended the inaugural ceremony marking the introduction of Para Shooting in the Maldives.

The Shooting Association of Maldives, in collaboration with the Maldives Paralympic Committee, is working to introduce Para Shooting as a new category in this year’s National Shooting Championship, creating greater opportunities for athletes with disabilities to participate in competitive shooting.

The small ceremony was held at the Shooting Range of the Hulhumalé Sports Complex and was attended by Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, H.E. Ishigami Rumiko, and Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to Japan, H.E. Ahmed Mahloof.
