>Cambridge made all 8th-graders take algebra. More than 60 percent of students will have to retake it
Remember when Cali experimented w/ algebra for all, ended up being a bit of a failure, SF then eliminates 8th grade algebra on the grounds of ... equity, & now some have algebra
Near every single complaint about the state of taste or whatever you would like to call it to feel better about it is represented as graph 1, & fixed as graph 2
This is how you get lucky 200, the light lens lab 35 1.4, Topping/SMSL, the SU7 Ultra, KBDfans, literally everything
all these mfs go on & on about how n generation is in charge of building the better future for <n-1> & when it comes time to empowering gen n it goes to gpt wrapper #962 instead of building more housing & better production
& these same mfs will turn to you, complain ab unaffordable hobbies, complain about the youth, whatever that is and buy a new M6 to go with their 911!

the US can too yes, when they want to, but you need to pad out every autistic take with such significant margin to simultaneously survive NYC/SF rents while having VCs take notice that you may as well give up while you're ahead
you have what Matic, SpaceX, Slate, Lume, what else
The only ones who can compete with this, IMHO, are the chinese who have the infra, logistics, backing, labor, & now knowledge to throw everything at the wall
& maybe slightly carve out a niche for themselves. Which is already happening, surely but slowly (LLL, SC01, Hasselblad)
@lu_sichu Cynical take much like evals the labs know this well internally & restrictions on frontier ML, Bio etc. are purely to kneecap competition so Ant & Co (rly js ant) can take it for themselves under the guise of safety & governance
They aren't in the bomb business, so little care

& you can hate the 911 all you want, I would love to just as much as you
Yet in 50yrs, everybody who has tried to compete in that segment has left. Nobody else has made a modern high-end film camera much less a rangefinder. Insane credit where its due
BMW (M8), Lexus (LC500), Nissan (GTR), AMG (also GTR) have all died. The Lambo/Audi moved upmarket, Aston went bankrupt 7 times, McLaren still cant manage to build a reliable car, Maserati has 15yr product lifecycles
The only ones that have come close are GM with the corvette & even then as absolutely fantastic as those are they are the value option
Like hate on the Q3 all you want, the DLUX is a cash grab, the M6 is what the MP has been doing for 20yrs which itself is what the actual M6 did for 20 more
& yet the only ones who try to compete are sony (rx1riii) and they can barely justify updating that in the first place

& the best part of it is, none of them are right, as a dentist you probably should just buy an mev1 & get done with it
if you are a driver or an artist & have spent your entire life dissecting cars & cameras you probably do care for that last 5% disproportionately to others
but imagine if we could have our cake & eat it too w/ porsche deciding they could actually manufacture porches & leica deciding a camera doesn't need to be handcrafted & the heir's mother's attic to be well built

on the other hand w/ any enthusiast field once dominated by germans you have
- bros (left) going 'yeah I heard they made good products not going to think', right going yeah unfortunately they have years of invaluable iteration & refinement
& the value spec sheet in the middle
was thinking of Leica, realized I can't rly think of any class-leading German companies left. Maybe BMW, if you are specific enough on the class
Miele, Leica outsource some & are behind state of the art in others. Zeiss has fallen behind its Japanese & French brothers
tmobile?
@anistotle_ no like it was chronic I was bedridden for more or less to yrs I'm just not going to detail my entire medical history on twitter when im fine now
& sure maybe it was better as a qrt subtwt etc. but also it feels appropriate when the quoted post is ab tooth #19 lol
@anistotle_ and even further of a tangent which is closer to your point a negligible number of people throughout that chain of manufacturing, prescribing, legislating, administering those drugs will have dealt with that pain the most they've done is like wake up with a sore throat
I mean its nothing much it was just an odd illness & in very many states under 18 you need your parents to sign off on opioids & very obviously my asian parents who had clearly watched a few too many films on opioid usage said no
I'm not saying we should give them to kids whenever there were some real issues obv but its infuriating how we can immediately drastically improved the QoL of sooooo many kids & we chose not to out of ill-supported statistics & arbitrary moral superiority
Its the same thing now with the adderral shortage & that one debate when someone made that one vaccine for their terminally ill dog its too far the other end
it also very slightly helps that the sensor is ever so slightly more cropped than standard APS-C sensors & so you're using more of only the good bit of the lens
Which, its interesting they advertise foveon as a APS-C equivalent when it is pretty squarely within APSC & Micro 4/3
when I bought the 30/1.4 I didn't really expect to be shooting wide open as much as I did
& a lot of it is because the sensor is shit at anything except perfect light yes but I think most of the time I'm between 1.4-2.8 p much, very fun
vignetting/disortion/CA you can roughly correct in post, the only issue is sharpness which is an issue in test files but IRL you'll be focused on something surely & the DoF mitigates it a fair bit
even against a flat plane, your subject very likely isn't at the far ends
@anpaure@giffmana like idiomatically yes but if I tell grok to work on a iOS/macOS 27 codebase targeting isa changes from the last year it won't have any less an issue than sonnet
