3/ If PWUD recognise that a police officer will always put their life first - it reduces stigma.
Importantly, it also encourages people to call 999 when they come across an overdose. Not doing so has led to preventable deaths due to fear of criminalisation.
2/ naloxone is life saving and the first principle of policing is preservation of life.
Even more interesting was the increase in trust and confidence between PWUD and police demonstrated by work from James Whild and @shaw_til
Amazing work @hussey_deb & @SDASdigital 🧡
When me & @JaneBaileyWMP led @WMPolice@WestMidsPCC to be first force to carry naloxone in the UK it was knowing we had to get it right so every other force could & should follow suit- supported by partners
Why is it so important…
A step in the right direction #drugstrategy2021 that we will action
"We believe that first and foremost, we have to start with saving lives.. we continue to work with Govt & others to champion testing drugs - not people, to call for DCRs & to champion recovery in all its forms"
An absolutely brilliant team of @WMerciaPolice Hereford Inspectors listening to the benefits of @Cranstoun_org DIVERT programme this morning.
Some really positive questions and some of the team had already referred some people to us👏🏻
#diversionworks
Today we launch DIVERT™ a programme to encourage drug offenders away from becoming involved in more serious offences.
@JohnPaulCampion has funded the charity @Cranstoun_org to deliver early intervention to those found in possession of a small amount of drugs.

Great to host our HACAA Naloxone Seminar today, sharing the great work of West Midlands police in equipping officers with Naloxone. Hopefully it will assist other forces in trying to achieve this. Thanks to @MegJ4289@JaneBaileyWMP@ClaireJ24085821 for presenting👍
Fantastic to see so many other forces following @WestMidsPCC@WMPolice and equipping officers with this life saving kit. Officers are often first on the scene of an overdose situation and have welcomed the move in West Mids. @JaneBaileyWMP@ClaireJ24085821 @CGLWestMids

This is a real treat. 800 word blog into 4000 words...!! A special long read. But we’re talking about George here - a real inspiration - we couldn’t cut one single word. ‘Putting those with lived and living experience front and centre’ #naloxone#savinglives#peertopeer
I’ve set up a new Instagram page to showcase the stories of people who have faced mental health difficulties. The aim is to show that despite these struggles, people can still live content and successful lives.
Any follows / shares would be appreciated.
