The most telling part of a reguarly issued forecast is often not what it has said, but how it has changed.
The IEA Total Energy Supply forecast was revised up 1-2% in 2021/22/30, which is pretty telling given the agencies view of how much less per capita and per GDP we are all about to consume. A bit awkward to revise up covid years and 2030 during a hohum economic growth picture in 2024? Datacenters and Jevons Paradox at play?
The Natural Gas supply forecast underwent a bit historical revision downward (5%) with a smaller revision in the out years implying more growth. They are still far less constructive on gas than most other forecasters, and are starting to plant the seeds of how they will be changing this forecast right in the report.
