Q4. I loved this teacher's story about working with a mother to help elevate her daughters anxiety at school! This teacher recognized that mom knew what would work best for her daughter and gave his full support! (Rover- Introduction Video) #WesternDLD2
@ChelseaBetz1@larchiba6 To add to this, a teacher or clinician's lack of knowledge and understanding regarding a family's cultural background in general can lead to confusion and misunderstanding! #WesternDLD2
@larchiba6 A friend of mine gets weekly updates on her Childs learning via text message from her child's school ! This is a great strategy for schools wanting to encouraging parental engagement! The parents can even respond with questions & concerns #WesternDLD2
@KirstenGottsc13@larchiba6 This is so important! I think finding ways to encourage family engagement without putting huge demands on parents who are already stretched thin and don't have the luxury of extra time is essential! How can we do this as SLP's? #WesternDLD2
A barrier could be the continuous change over of teachers and support staff! Parents and teachers both have to start from scratch and build new relationships over and over again, which can seem taxing after a while. #WesternDLD2
@tessie_spyksma@Cspence88@larchiba6 Exactly! One video talked about how parents know their child best, and how beneficial that knowledge can be when shared with teachers in the classroom! For example, sharing info on managing behavioural issues, reducing anxieties, etc.
What is #parentengagement? When parents play an active role in their child's learning by working together with the school and its faculty in a team approach to further benefit the child and their learning. #WesternDLD2
