Which Offenses "Help" Their Lines the Most?

On a podcast this summer, I heard @BrandonThornNFL say something to the effect of "...balanced or run heavy offenses with a lot of play action or RPOs, those are generally the schemes and systems that are more friendly and conducive for success for offensive line because it minimizes the most difficult part of playing the position."

I used k-means clustering to group offenses by rush rate and percent of RPOs/Play Action to identify which offenses set their lines up for success most often.

These 21 teams fell in the same cluster of "run-heavy offenses with a lot of play action or RPOs":

Jacksonville State, UCF, Marshall, UNLV, Tennessee, New Mexico State, Florida, Texas State, Kansas State, Wisconsin, Baylor, Oregon, Old Dominion, SMU, Texas, East Carolina, Ole Miss, UTEP, South Alabama, Utah State, and San Diego State.

@rjochoa I completely agree. Everything isn't perfect but there was a time in the past that this team would collapse under the weight of injuries. To win 4 of 5 as they have shows McCarthy has to be doing something right.

@StatBoyDrew Boomer kicked the previous kickoff out of the endzone so they started at the 25. After the penalty his kickoff was short of the endzone so they got all the way to the 26, so a 1 yard difference, think that 1 yard made that much of a difference?

Been feeling some way all weekend, but my 2 cents.

1. Anytime you blow that big of a lead, it’s a coaching loss. Big Gus fan, but there has to be accountability there.

2. Students early exit should have no bearing on result. That said, it deserves a long look.
