I remember when I was a teenager and ISIS started its attacks against the KRG; the whole family suddenly just had guns and rifles.
At that time I didn’t had any fear or worry - not because I was extraordinary brave but even as a young teenager I had full confidence in the Peshmerga.
This was also something extraordinary about the Peshmerga - they aren’t the armed forces of the KRG - they are a part of the Kurdish people.
I guess one has to be Kurdish to understand the confidence and trust that we have in the Peshmerga.
After my cousin Mansour Abdullahzadeh was released on Saturday, his brother Soran Abdollahzadeh was arrested the following day for unknown reasons.
He had previously been detained during the 2022 Women, Life, Freedom protests.
#Daraa | Alqeen... A story of complete ethnic cleansing.
Alqeen, a village situated in northern Daraa province, area of Ghabaghib. It had a population of several thousands, all of whom are Alawites.
The village is known for its Nabi Huthaifa shrine which holds a great religious significance for the Alawite sect.
As it is to be expected during the war, the village often found itself under attack or besieged by its neighbouring villages for sectarian reasons and was regularly forced to fend off against attacks from Islamic groups that operated in Daraa.
On the same day the Assad regime fell, Islamist groups entered Alqeen and ordered the villagers to leave the village immediately or face death, which forced all of its inhabitants to leave becoming refugees in other regions, mainly the coast, most of them lost almost their every worldly possession and livelihoods which sees them living in dire conditions relying heavily on support from others.
As to the shrine it was ransacked, set ablaze and eventually destroyed by the Islamist groups which deems it a kind of polytheism and Kufr.
This effectively completed the ethnic cleansing of the one and only Alawite village in Daraa in the same manner in which dozens of Druze villages in Suweida were ethnically cleansed by Islamists.
