Why it's difficult to people that the right to choose and what one chooses are distinct things, if the law permits you to choose doesn't mean you have made the right choice, it's gets me every time people use right to choose as a justification for a bad choice.
And One peculiar dimension in this aspect is of conflation of these restrictive elements with identity, pride and comfort.
It's is concerning that those who had been under the brunt of such exclusion would come to defend it in the name of comfort and identity.
In the name of comfort:
All granted,we live in a traditional society and here social aspects our life is mostly governed through the traditions and customs.Sometimes these customs have exclusionary tendencies which primarily target individuals based on their distinct identities.
It would be very generic and correct to point out that the responsibility lies in the society as whole, however it's human nature to evade challenges and to find comfort in the limited space when such alienating components are systemic and deeply embedded in the society.
The exclusionary elements are not often repelled, instead they are acknowledged and adopted which results in the ostracism of certain classes of people especially women from public spaces, educational institutions, places of entertainment etc.
hijab aslo needs to be addressed. So whenever anyone makes any argument against hijab they shouldn't just primarily focus onΒ the religious dimension butΒ also on the other aspects by which hijab is mostly defended.
they wear it, they donot necessarily do soΒ because it's a religious dictate, it may be that the routinely doning of such garment has provided them with a sense of comfort and assurance just like any other piece of clothing does. And hence the comfort and assurance element of
becomes visibly prominent. And once they are married their life almost in most senses remain similar.
The most viable way forward from this plight is to turn towards good and quality education through which these women can develop a sense of thinking and question and influence
