살다 보면 너무나 가슴 아프거나 스트레스가 심한 상황을 겪으면서 다시는 괜찮아질 수 없을 것 같다는 생각이 드는 게 참 신기하지 않나요?

그런데 몇 주, 몇 달, 심지어 몇 년이 지나면, 그런 힘든 시간들은 더 이상 생각나지 않고도 하루하루를 보낼 수 있다는 걸 깨닫게 됩니다. 웃을 수도 있고, 미소 지을 수도 있고, 평범한 일상을 보내면서 예전보다 훨씬 강해지고 행복해졌다는 걸 느끼게 되죠. 힘들었던 기억들이 마음속에 남아있을 수도 있지만, 어쩐지 과거와 화해하게 되고, 예전처럼 가슴을 찌르는 기억도 더 이상 느껴지지 않습니다. 주변 사람들이 말했던 것처럼 내가 정말 강하고, 그 모든 어려움을 이겨낼 수 있다는 걸 깨닫게 되는 거죠. 우리가 얼마나 많이 변하고, 배우고, 성장할 수 있는지 정말 놀랍지 않나요?

피곤할 땐 스스로에게 부드러움을 허락하시길 바랍니다. 그럴 자격이 있다는 걸 알아주셨으면 좋겠어요. 무능하거나 뒤처진다고 해서 스스로를 비난하지 않으셨으면 좋겠습니다.

우리는 열심히 일해서 생계를 유지해야 한다는 압박을 받습니다. 성공은 끊임없이 쫓아야 하는 목표로 여겨지기 때문이죠. 물론 가족도 소홀히 할 수 없습니다. 인간관계는 가장 소중한 가치라고들 하니, 가족을 돌보는 것 또한 우리의 책임입니다. 동시에 첫인상이 중요하니 운동을 하고 건강을 유지해야 한다는 말도 듣습니다. 에너지가 곧 화폐이니 건강해야 한다는 거죠. 하지만 운동만으로는 부족합니다. 식단도 관리해야 하고, 식품 성분표를 꼼꼼히 읽고, 진짜인지 유기농인지 따져봐야 합니다. 요즘 세상에 진정성이 느껴지는 게 없으니까요. 제대로 휴식을 취하고 긴장을 풀기 위해 수면 습관도 개선해야 합니다. 그리고 사람들과의 교류는 중요하니 초대도 거절할 수 없죠. 집에만 너무 오래 있을 수도 없습니다. 보고 경험해야 할 것들이 너무 많으니까요. 온라인에서 사람들이 아무리 그렇지 않다고 설득하려 해도 삶은 쉽지 않다. 그리고 그런 현실은 정말 지치고 벅찬 일이다.
