Secularly researching the juxtaposition of sociolinguistics and ASL/English interpreting. Shih tzu lover. Extra dark chocolate & vodka always appreciated.
Bye bye everybody. Logging out for a variety of reasons. Time to focus on presentations and writing. Also, my favorite academic peeps are gone, so whyyyy would I stay?
So long, farewell. Hoping to see you at my presentations at Sign10 and TISLR15!
@linasigns Okayyyyy. You're right. I created an account back in January but never kept up with it. It is time. So so so many ads on X. Ugggh. Thanks for the push. 😉
Our fur baby, the beloved Mr. Sashes, has passed away today. He was my first dog. Before him, I didn't understand why humans were so emotional about their dogs. After 15+ years with him, I fully 100% understand. A brief message in his honor: To Mr Sashes, with love.
@Budget I need help. I'm in Knoxville, and you have customers that have been waiting outside for nearly 2 hours in a single-file line for a rental car. My job has prepaid for my car & I was just told that only 8 cars are here. And they're dirty. HELP #nofastbreak
We’re breaking down language barriers as part of our "Blurred Boundaries: Sharpening Perspectives" theme! Our 2025 conference will have: English captions & interpretations in IS, BSL, Spoken Spanish, Spoken French ...and from these to Spoken English!

🚨"Finally free from the interpreter's gaze?" New article with @drcastone🚨 We explore the effort deaf consumers of interpreting services put in to managing visual attention during interpreted interactions - what we call gaze work. (1/5)

@mdemeulder@drcastone Thanks for sharing this. Reminds me of an older article entitled "Why aren't they looking at me?" which addressed the multimodal learning environment in education so that interpreters working in those spaces remember students need not solely attend to them in order to learn.
@DrJKWallace Man, that's the real life out here in these academic "streets". I would've said, in my saccharine Southern voice, "Oh, you work for parking? Congrats on that. Let me know when my request for my reserved parking spot comes through. Don't work too hard in this heat. " HA!
@ICL2024 What are ways to inclusion and emancipation? One way is recognising the MIND even in "monolinguals" - they often in fact use Minority, Indigenous, Non-standard(ized) and Dialect varieties @ @ICL2024 https://t.co/Zqfn2bjfUU
Thanks for this, cannot wait to read it all. Thanks to all the presenters for sharing their perspectives and research. I was able to attend virtually.
I must extend a special kudos to @NaomiSheneman for her continued work to push interpreter education.

@liamsims Do you remember your WHY? Write that down then briefly summarize WHAT you did and the impact of your work. 1 page max. It's the only time you'll have to revel in all of the tiny little details of your thesis. Get excited! You are ending 1 part of your journey. Congrats!
Breaking news: I am embarking on the tenure track at the Univ of Tenn Knoxville (UTK). Joining a supportive team in the Educational interpreting program housed in Deaf Studies. Thank you all who encouraged ("pushed") me to take this unexpected journey. https://t.co/B7iJu2XDhS
