The bog is where it’s at today! Aitkin County foresters actively manage the public wooded acres across the county. A bonus is a managed area for blueberries along the Soo Line Trail. Doing ecological forestry inspired by Jerry Franklin in Washington State.

Celebrating agriculture with @UMNExt Community Food Systems tour. @MapleRidgeFarms in @aitkinage County is providing food to their community by producing and selling produce in Grand Rapids, Aitkin and Crosby and selling at their decked-out roadside stand. #shorthaul #localfood

Tale of two plans...

A. South Dakota cow/calf ranch

-Dad (late 60s) & 2 sons (30s) full time in the operation
-Mgmt decision making 100% with Dad

B. South Dakota grain/feedlot

-Dad (early 60s) & 1 son (38) & 1 SIL (34) full time in the operation
-Mgmt decision making transitioned over 5 years to:

>Son oversees grain
>SIL oversees feedlot
>Dad provides high level mentoring/guidance

Plan B has a higher likelihood of legacy success, in my opinion.

Management transition timeline ought to happen earlier than the succession transition timeline.

@DeRushaJ We lucked out with what I think was a cancellation and were able to get our 16-year-old into Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Kind people and done likety-split. But it did take all day with the drive there and back.
