@Lawton_Times @wilson2604 @seaningle He had 5 subs available. It’s very simple. Mainoo for Rice, Rashford for Gordon, saka for rogers, and maybe then Watkins for Kane. These were very obvious subs. Not 6 defenders plus Anderson around Messi and 3 knackered attackers on the pitch. Tuchel was a tactical catastrophe.

@LeePazzini @gunnerpunner The truth is somewhere in between imo. His positioning isn’t great but it is understandable that he’s trying to get a good view of the ball and slightly overdoes it. Pickford wasn’t great but the bigger issue was how deep we were defending which meant he felt the need to do this

@allenf32 It was obvious that our attackers were tiring for a number of reasons (previous extra time, tough conditions, illness, quick games etc). We needed fresh attacking momentum. Rashford /Saka for Gordon/Rogers. Mainoo for Rice. Nobody is suggesting being more open. This is on Tuchel

@willsemain @Tgarratt10 Maguire/Colwill maybe our best centre backs on the ball. Wharton/Mainoo keep possession and are progressive. Alexander Arnold our best full back on the ball. Palmer and Foden play through the lines. we left all our best players for keeping possession at home. The man is a fraud.

@draper_rob I agree with pretty much all of this. one thing to add is that it was obvious that we needed fresh attacking legs well before Tuchel made any subs to give us a threat on transition. The players were knackered through a combo of quick games,tough conditions,extra time and illness.

@CliveWismayer We have to get away from the idea that this was like those other matches. In the Croatia and Italy games we were too passive but we did not end up with 7 defenders on the pitch, 12% possession, hardly leaving our penalty area & conceding chance after chance. This was way worse.

@CliveWismayer You don’t have to play high, but we were so low. Not only the space that Fernandez had but the effect it had on Pickford. Defenders were so deep, so Pickford moved way too much to one side to see the ball. And all those crosses and headers from close in. Easily could have had 5.

@DPJHodges It needed fresh attacking legs. Players were tiring due to a comb of illness, previous extra time and demanding conditions. We had so many attackers who could have produced fresh momentum and pace on transition. And we never gave up so many chances under Southgate. This was new.

@CliveWismayer It was much worse than Croatia and Italy. Against those teams we may have been passive when ahead but we never became as defensive as last night both in terms of personnel and how deep we were. We had so many warnings before they score. 12% possession after our goal says it all.

@Matt_Law_DT He picked an appalling squad, leaving us short in many areas. He claimed that his teams shortcomings against low blocks (Ghana, Congo) was because he’d picked players to win the big games. Then when we play one, he is way more defensive than Southgate ever was. He should go now.

@henrywinter Collina emphasised that ‘normal’ football contact would be allowed meaning many fewer fouls are given on field to make the game flow. Therefore whilst this was a ‘soft’ foul it seems mad that VAR has a lower threshold than for an onfield decision. VAR continues to ruin football

@henrywinter Arguably a poor result for Scotland. models suggest that to get out of the group 3 points will be ok with an even goal difference. Scotland must get another point now which could be tough. Beat Haiti by 2 or more and single goal defeats in next 2 matches may well have been ok

@AtTheRaces It’s an extraordinary and farcical situation. The people in charge at the BHA are an utter shambles. Go back to the old rule asap so that we all know where we are.
