And next time this industry cries about "unfair attacks" or "Due Process" lets just recall the 8+ years of spurious attacks and lifetime of harmful lies sprung on Shireman w/ less than 0 due process.
Long before Trump's "Big Lie" & anti-💉 nonsense, @WSJ E Board & others fine-tuned the weaponization of fake news w/ attacks like this. The recipe: 0 evidence & 💯 lies... repeated enough times to do real damage. Ty @davidfolkenflik@NPR for correcting the record.
Former federal official Robert Shireman has been baselessly accused of corruption for years - often by critics with industry ties who point to an eight year old article in the WSJ.
My story for NPR on his quest to get the WSJ to re-revisit the report.

EdSmart "a nationally recognized publisher of college resources and independent rankings," but actually a paid lead generator, just ranked "Best Online Law Schools." Keiser Univ (whose CEO loves rankings) comes in at #9. Keiser doesn't have a law school.

Breakthrough! A summer project at @tcfdotorg has been to work with a data consultant to mine an obscure and complex @usedgov database to see if it reveals info abt colleges. It does! Latest update compared to past data shows:
3) You can close, but you can't hide. @usedgov has used extraordinary collection power to garnish wages, SSI & VA benefits from students. Maybe now we'll see that type of collection against corrupt execs. https://t.co/XfMKOo8Dcc
2) Return 100% of ill-gotten gains. Makes sense, but @usedgov has never before charged a school for 100% of federal aid received over a three-year period. Schools with MANY fraud charges - like @devryuniv or @UAZGlobalCampus - should take note. https://t.co/lP1TOmsSvb
YASSSSSSS. With 3,956 student complaints & counting against Perdoceo schools (AIU, CTU), it's good to see @FSACOO and @usedgov are turning this ship around and starting some investigations! 👏👏👏
Here's the May 11 letter from @usedgov to Perdoceo re 1000s of borrower defense claims against the company. Includes request for docs, including about law enforcement investigations of the company. Doc courtesy of @Capitol_Forum. https://t.co/UQpVbN22rl
Really critical to reach students now, amid all the misinformation they are getting from schools. Thanks @FSACOO for making this a priority!

Student Advocates: Help us spread the word to students enrolled at schools owned by the Center for Excellence in Higher Education! #UniversityClosures#CollegeClosures
We called on @usedgov for action on CEHE last October. ED could have 1) secured student records; 2) protected students from predatory "teachouts"; 3) pursued personal liability against corrupt execs; 4) set the stage for automatic loan cancellation

write @SecCardona calling for "immediate action" to assist CEHE students: "CEHE and its staff are steering students toward questionable options and misrepresenting students’ deadlines for decisions on transfer." https://t.co/29or60GYpt
Once again, advocates like @NCLC4consumers are picking up the slack to share real information with students who have been harmed. Check out their 8/4 webinar here - https://t.co/IAcQ9APa9x
Keiser: "But 'due process" requirements!"😡
Means: "due process" has always worked as a get-out-of-jail card before!😨
Reality: NACIQI actions don't create Due Process problems. NACIQI recs go to @usedgov for a ruling👩⚖️
It's like a liar yelling "But Free Speech!"
Art Keiser lectures fellow #NACIQI members for probing accreditors they are supposed to review, following intense discussion yesterday of ACCSC, which accredited many predatory schools. Keiser missed the session because his own for-profit school, Southeastern, is ACCSC-accredited

The 2021 closed school application is not online. Maybe @usedgov thinks students will give up if they have to go through their servicers? (good luck!) But here's the 2020 application. I'm sure it hasn't changed much - https://t.co/CLY6xHFjXx
Wow! If the school is on the brink of closure, staff should 💯 tell students that they get federal loan forgiveness IF they withdraw BUT NOT if they agree to transfer to another 💩💩💩🗑️🗑️🔥 school.
Come to think of it, @usedgov should be telling students that too! But somehow @usedgov 's website on Closed School Discharge links to everything BUT the application for loan relief. https://t.co/lY2dhJwis1
