This is called the Palmar Grasp Reflex. It’s something we evolved via evolution. Humans are apart of the Great Apes family and just like all other great apes it’s imperative that the babies were able to grasp their parents fur (tightly) while traveling or as their parents would forage for food. (You’ll notice this same reflex happens with their toes)
