On a recent academic trip to the University of Colorado, I learned of their programme to offer local retired people un-filled slots on university modules for a nominal fee. The retirees did everything except the assessments. What a great idea.
I’ve read this book and it’s incredible. So much so that it stands to be the go-to guide for health and longevity. (Note: I am not a paid endorser; it’s simply terrific).
Wonderful to run a "Hacking Hackathons" seminar & workshop for the @EUErasmusPlus#Eduhack initiative in All Hallows @DCU. So much interest in effective & experiential teaching moments to develop innovation in students/employees. Thanks @yvonnecrotty@DCU_ICIWL and attendees!
@DCU_IoE@DCU_ICIWL@RoLyonz Some cool "dilemmas" @RoLyonz shared: Are hackathons too surface level? Do they provide a false of complexity? How do we create spaces for learners to take up "space" and log off whilst in a learning context? What intentions drive educational/organisational hackathons? #HACKDAY
At @DCU_IoE#hackday@DCU_ICIWL . A balanced introduction to the Hackathon methodology with ideas about its misconceptions, drawbacks, varieties and opportunity to create experiential IMMERSIVE SPACES for students of today's world. @RoLyonz#hackathon
I heard @hubermanlab say on a podcast how he regularly stops himself from doing trivial things - like picking up a paper clip or fidgeting with a pen in a meeting.
Why does he do that? Why does it matter?
(Surprise, surprise: it has something to do with our brains 🧠)
This is your regular reminder that the study of higher education is an academic discipline. I'm looking forward to the day when we stop wondering why academia devalues the study of itself.
@hubermanlab@StanfordMed Happy birthday AH! What a legend, thanks for being such a kind, gentle soul to listen to and an incredible asker/explainer of mindblowing scientific questions!! 🤗

“Focus” is complex but from a neurochemistry perspective it’s like an arrow where acetylcholine is the arrowhead, epinephrine is the arrow shaft & dopamine is a propeller that drives the arrow forward.
P.S. Nicotine increases all 3.
P.P.S. Don’t smoke or vape.
Very happy to share our @SolPan_Plus article on how we set up a research commons in a pandemic. If you are interested in research commons, large-scale qualitative research and setting up projects during the pandemic, check it out 👇!

I gave up asking students to respond to each other's discussion posts. Now I ask them to quote & reference each other's responses in their projects/papers or summarize 4-5 student responses for the annotated bib. Students use each other's writing as a resource for the course.
I am so privileged to have been part of this paper and of the incredible @SolPan_Plus study! A huge thanks to all the Consortium members from all Country Teams for having made this extraordinary adventure possible! It is such a pleasure to be working with all of you!
On overcast days you’ll want to get 20-30min of morning sunlight exposure to your eyes, not with sunglasses or through a window or windshield. The positive benefits for focus, mood, sleep and metabolism are far reaching. On clear mornings 10min should suffice. #science
