The lower crust is strong and can generate earthquakes during continental collision. This happened 420 million years ago, when Baltica and Laurentia collided to form the mighty Scandinavian Caledonides. Watch @sheared_sash telling us how it happened. 👇🎬🎥⛏️🔬⛰️
Straight from the Goldschmidt Lab at UiO we present to you @sheared_sash giving a rundown on his latest paper: Dating fossil lower-crustal earthquakes by in-situ apatite U-Pb geochronology https://t.co/XrMG6Av3dl
Enjoy!! 🍿 🎥
Interesting and very fun experience to give a talk in the morning and then directly go to the outcrops I had just talked about! Very cool discussions. I could get used to this...
Started the 2nd day of the FricFrac mini-conference with short presentations of the outcrops we were to visit and then headed out to the field to look at small-scale shear zones! The day was capped by a group that headed out for a midnight sun summit
First day of the FricFrac mini-conference excursion to Lofoten. Our basecamp is the most beautiful and historic Nusfjord rorbuer. We have invited international researchers with a variety of backgrounds and so the discussions have been extremely fruitful!
Back in Lofoten! Today I have some time to explore new outcrops (and boulders 😂) with @glgysteve. My favorite so far the amazingly purple anorthositic dyke. #geology
A month editor searching for reviewers… Dear researchers, if you like to receive reviews of your paper quickly, take a share in this process and review others' papers, only if we all do that it may happen
Last day of the tectonics field trip and the Lærdal-Gjende fault always delivers! Mylonites in the footwall, a fault core with several gouges, and cross-cutting fractures in the hanging wall.
The most beautiful outcrop in the world! Beginning asymmetric boudinage and veins provide evidence of consist kinematics during protracted deformation of the Nordfjord-Sogn detachment. #geology
Day 1 of this years tectonics field trip: The pictures show flame structures in a turbidite sequence, providing nice way-up criteria, and axial cleavage-bedding intersections from folding of the sequence. #geology
