Fractured time shapes the battlefield.
Shearline is a tactical RPG where amber and violet zones turn every map into hostile and home territory.
Put each character on the right ground, or reshape the battlefield to steal back a fair fight. #indiedev#tacticsrpg#pixelart#SRPG

@Look_behindyou Thanks for hosting #TurnBasedThursday!
This week I'm showing off unit traits and class innate abilities!
Bryn's Triage refunds SP when he pulls a badly wounded ally back from the brink. Medic's First Responder innate lets Swift actions keep him moving.

Shearline is a tactics RPG where fractured time shapes the battlefield. This week: class-based modifiers! New class means new sprite decor, stats, etc. Check out the radar chart!

@DarkDeityGame Thanks! I'm trying to avoid too many loops and knots, even just getting things to look this clean took way longer than I figured. I'll eventually have ~20 classes so some of that might not be avoidable 😅
Small slice of Shearline: basic attacks.
In tactics RPGs even the basic flows are sometimes a bit tedious:
move cursor -> confirm move -> act -> attack -> pick target
In Shearline if an enemy is already in range you can just click them.

TODO:
- Make the unit panel slightly more opaque to improve readability.
- Make the 'HP bar loss direction' more consistent.
Anything else bother you with this flow? I want simple parts of combat to be fast and satisfying so that the interesting parts take up most of the loop.
@ThoseWhoRule@FiresquidGames WASD walking in both battles and exploration is smooth btw, you can hold the keys for continuous movement (until you run out of MOV!) the jerky step-by-step is just a quirk of how I demoed it 😅
@ThoseWhoRule@FiresquidGames There will also be exploration areas like towns that will have normal WASD movement. I think having unified keyboard moment across these different modes feels a bit better than having to grok multiple different control schemes. WASD makes you walk, simple!

We have water! I've been adding textures and better terrain seams so maps feel more like authored places than stacked tiles.
Still WIP, but it's starting to look like a world instead of a prototype. What do you think?

Shearline is a Tactics RPG in the spirit of Final Fantasy Tactics where temporal distortions play a big role in the flow of combat.
I've been working on the unit info panel. What do you think?

@justff777 Thanks! I'm still working out the details for all the ways temporal distortions will affect combat. The plan for combat flow is that it will work similarly to FFT, turn-based and the order is determined by unit speed and active temporal effects.
@ManaRelicGames Thanks for hosting #turnbasedthursday!
This was mostly a WIP visual polish week. I've been adding terrain 'edges' so maps look nicer where surfaces meet.

I've been working on lighting for Shearline since I decided to switch to 2.5D. I'm kind of blown away by how it turned out, it looks so much better 🌞
