@Timechos @MummyisT It is a horrible response. You're right about the tropes. But while I was thinking of something to say, she asked, "Does that mean you don't buy anything from Germany?" I gave up. Wasn't worth my energy. I'm sorry you've experienced this crap. The subtle stuff is worse, IMHO.

@Timechos @MummyisT Thank you. I really appreciate that. I went to Israel in 1996 but haven’t yet made it back. I did feel less stressed and I was genuinely surprised at that.

@MummyisT @Timechos The dynamic changes when people find out that you're Jewish. For example: It took me three years to tell someone whom I'd befriended in 2020 that I was Jewish. Her response was, "Well, that answers a lot of questions." I don't know what she meant but I haven't seen her in ages.
