I’m gratified the #HongKongHumanRightsandDemocracyAct has been passed in both the Senate and the House, and that we came together with one voice to tell the people of #HongKong that the United States stands with them. https://t.co/rspTbKSGHg
The #HongKong Human Rights and Democracy Act has officially passed in the House!
Now it goes to @POTUS for his signature. This is a major victory for the brave people of HK and together we will continue fighting for democracy around the globe!
In Jordan, riot police fire a tear gas canister into a resident’s flat, causing flames. The resident was not home, but returned in tears.

“What we can see is a pattern of escalation whereby police tactics have functioned to radicalize the population,” @cliffordstott tells @business for our story: ‘Everyone Is Angry’: How police aggression fuels Hong Kong protests, by @BlakeSchmidt and I:

The people of Hong Kong are right to stand up to Communist China and fight for freedom.
We hear your cries for democracy and are doing our part to hold China accountable for their acts of violence against protestors.
Thank you @marcorubio@SenatorRisch for your leadership.
Said Sir Malcolm Rifkind: "Hong Kong's Chief Executive has the responsibility to do everything possible to prevent a massacre." I sign on to this statement.
It’s heartbreaking to follow the news from Hong Kong. The conflict has moved into a deadly spiral. There is such a need for a neutral third part to step in as moderator. Maybe Denmark? Maybe the Nordic Council? #StandwithHonKong#FiveDemandsNotOneLess https://t.co/jaazrICLvk
A photo of what I just mentioned. Clear violation of international standards on use of teargas. The cops were peaking their heads up & shooting so fast, they didn’t even see what they were shooting, right down on heads, most here don’t have helmets.
In #HongKong, government police continue their assault on universities into the night, making mass arrests and now threatening live fire against largely defenseless students. Beijing is pushing Hong Kong into a state of siege #StandWithHongKong https://t.co/88poKjgKt8
TIME IS RUNNING OUT. #SOSHK Listen to urgent cry of protestors in #PolyU! Running out of food & medical supply, starving & injured protestors counting down to confront #hkpolice bullets with bare hands. Is the world going to witness bloody crackdown w/o stopping ruthless regime?
Yesterday I thought the attitude from the police towards the students couldn’t get worse. But reading this morning about what is happening on ground at Polytechnic University is like watching a massacre in slow motion. It’s a human catastrophe #StandwithHK https://t.co/b3k8GVA1ae
The actions of police at #PolyU are disturbing. The Chinese and Hong Kong government need to deescalate. We’ve had enough bloodshed. #StandWithHongKong
At 530am, #HKPoliceTerriorists suddenly attacked the #PolyU campus and arrested some students.
Wherever #HKPolice goes, there will be a war zone.
This is not a movie scene. This is an university campus and now is set on fire.
Plz save them.
#SOSHK
The police had raid into the entry platform of the #PolyU with endless shots of tear gas and other weapons. Numerous protestors were arrested while a group of them still trying to block the police from getting into the upper floor of the campus.
We need to save them.
#HongKong
Lord Hogan-Howe has just said:
“Reports that police in Hong Kong are armed with live ammunition and approaching the sit-ins is alarming. I urge the police to not use lethal force because it can only make the situation worse. Unless life is at risk hold back.”
