1/ animations & interactions : same calorie app, two tweets a day apart. one with page-bounces, haptics, a "searching" gradient → went viral. the static one → 7 likes. the polish was the difference.

2/ illustrations & mascots : commission an artist for v1 ($200–300), then riff infinite variations in GPT-5. pro move: MidJourney can animate a static mascot for your splash screen.

3/ iconography : pick one set (Hero Icons, Font Awesome, Nucleo). lined OR filled, never mixed. instant "this isn't vibe-coded" signal.

4/ typography : weights, sizing, legibility. 5 min of learning, outsized payoff.

5/ widgets : the retention cheat code. only 4 lock-screen slots exist. own one and users see your app 150x/day. doubled retention on every app he added it to.

6/ train your eye daily : Mobbin, 60fps, Spotted in Prod. you can't ship taste you've never seen.

7/ app store screenshots : your title-thumbnail. no first impression = no download = retention doesn't matter.

AI didn't replace the designer. it deleted everyone who skipped this.
