A new artificial intelligence tool developed here in Leeds is being used to identify people with a heart condition before they even have symptoms.

The trial is investigating an algorithm called FIND-AF – which was developed using machine learning - that looks for red flags in people’s GP records that suggest they’re at risk of developing AF in the next six months. People identified by the algorithm are then offered further testing to confirm a diagnosis of AF.

AF is a heart condition that causes an irregular and often abnormally fast heart rate. People with it have a significantly higher risk of having a stroke.

Developed by scientists and clinicians at the @UniversityLeeds and here at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, the tool is being assessed in a trial, called Find-AF, which is being funded by the @TheBHF and @LDShospcharity.
