To increase fertility, optimum SR is usually compromised and profit decreases because extra meat produced does not compensate for lower wool value at lower SR. Exception low wool value sheep.

The lower cost comes from more efficient wool handling not lower pay to shearers.
It’s no point wishing prices will rise to cover the rising costs of inefficient traditional shearing.
@stationmum101 Research breeding values are only good for our flock at present but will be really significant for rest of industry once more flocks are phenotyped and genotyped.

For last 6 years progeny in our ram breeding flock were untreated for flies, monitored closely and treated as they got struck. Collaboration with UNE/AGBU has provided first research breeding values for breech & body strike.
@Agrista_au Exactly. Most flocks not optimally stocked. If they increase fertility it is the increasing stocking rate which increases profit. Simpler and more efficient method is to increase SR (more ewes per ha) and have lower fertility.
