@realloudlyndsey@DrewTyler_@kinburnsheep I would not trust a free choice vitamin mineral premix to provide that much calcium. I think it has to be mixed with the brewers grains. I should have noted as well that small grains also have a poor calcium to phosphorus ratio so if you are feeding other grains be aware.
@DrewTyler_@realloudlyndsey@kinburnsheep It is best to do the calculations on your own source but you would need to add approximately 3.5 kg of limestone for every 96.5 kg of brewers grain to correct for the calcium to phosphorus ratio for the brewers grain alone. Note: feeding corn would increase that even more.
Congratulations Katie. You did great today presenting and defending your hard work. I look forward to seeing your future contributions to the sheep industry.
Hosted 4H sheep clubs from Chatham-Kent, Comber and Elgin at Ridgetown Campus tonight. Great night to learn about ruminant nutrition and sheep parasites (fecal floats).
@modernsheeper @hawkhillfarm @Anne_Verhallen I wouldn’t dispute that except last time I checked at the cost for 50 ewes it was a tough one to pencil out.
I came up with a potential cull list and then went out to the barn to take a look at them. Five of them on the list came right up to me for a scratch under their chins.
@Anne_Verhallen @hawkhillfarm The things I plan to cull on in the long term are not getting pregnant on first service, low total kg lamb weaned, udder conformation to name a few. That is not to mention the ones that have other reproductive problems.
@Anne_Verhallen @hawkhillfarm I was planning on getting rid of the ewes that struggled but they actually came around decently. I’ll see how they do after one more litter.
