1969 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆಯಾದ ಆಗ್ನೇಯ ಏಷ್ಯಾದ ಮೊಟ್ಟಮೊದಲ ಮೀನುಗಾರಿಕಾ ಮಹಾವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯವನ್ನು, ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ವನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡುವ ಬದಲು ಇಂದು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಮೀನುಗಾರಿಕಾ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನ ಮತ್ತು ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನ ಎಂಬ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಲು ಹೊರಟಿರುವುದು ವಿಪರ್ಯಾಸ.
