Hey everyone! On May 9th at 11am CT, I'll be going live to promote Dahnoun Mutual Aid, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing life-saving resources to displaced Palestinians in Gaza. If you'd like to donate, here is the link: https://t.co/jzASxy1vAW
@H00dedJust1ce@YaoiVriska Saying there’s no such thing as a former racist” pretty explicitly implies you don’t believe one can have been racist in their past and has since changed. And neither that claim, nor the one you’ve interpreted as, have anything to do with forgiveness of past sins
@Sluttynastybaby@sillierdeadite If she wanted to stay on the island, she was more than welcome to. But she didn’t have to stop him from being rescued, and killing two people in the process.
@Sluttynastybaby@sillierdeadite What? What are you talking about??
She enjoyed being on the island because it allowed her control over a situation in which she was uniquely good at, and which forced her douchey boss to be dependent on her, giving her a power trip.
@bankfloodmaebi I don’t understand why this discourse keeps devolving into discussions about forgiveness when what OP is talking about is whether or not a leopard can change their spots. This is about redemption, not forgiveness.
@YaoiVriska All true and correct; the problem is that that’s NOT the main claim they’re making. That’s what they keep pivoting to after you point out the absurdity of claim 1, which has nothing to do with claim 2. That’s my whole point.
Which in its own right is obviously dumb, but then they keep pivoting it to “you can’t expect everyone to forgive you” and that’s NOT what the discussion was about!!!
Like a lot of these people are arguing the extremely bizarre/unfair claim that if you ever had problematic beliefs in the past, that’s still who you are fundamentally.
@TheStarWarsOG@JacobKenne92848 As I've said, you're misunderstanding the definition of the word "apathy" and then using that to assign arguments to me that I've never actually said. I don't see how you find it interesting to have conversations this way, but I'm tired of it. It's not entertaining anymore
@TheStarWarsOG@JacobKenne92848 You know, for someone who claims to be this authority on all things Lucas/EU Star Wars, you seem to have a very elementary grasp of the films and the themes they present. Id think that would make you sad, but I’m starting to suspect you don’t realize it at all, and that’s worse
@TheStarWarsOG@JacobKenne92848 Luke is afraid of Owen, and doesn’t want to disappoint him. Owen is afraid of what will happen to Luke if he leaves, so he’s overly controlling. This really isn’t that hard to figure out. If you’re trying to rage bait me, you’re gonna have to try harder than this OG.
@TheStarWarsOG@JacobKenne92848 I’m still waiting for you to answer MY question btw. Like did you think “ooooh this is sure to stump him!” This is a serious question. How divorced from reality are you?
@TheStarWarsOG@JacobKenne92848 When you chose to write out that question, and when you chose to press send, were you proud of yourself? Did you think that was a real slam dunk?
@TheStarWarsOG@JacobKenne92848 This entire argument stems from a semantic game you're attempting to play to make it seem like I don't understand what I'm talking about (which you're failing at. Badly.) But even if I granted that to you, you still aren't actually addressing the meat of my argument.
@TheStarWarsOG@JacobKenne92848 think if he defied him, and those fears drive him to initially decline the call to action. Those fears stem from Owen's own worries about what would happen to Luke if the Empire ever found him, but those are, nonetheless, examples of apathy.
