I was pleased to sign the 2024 Kano State supplementary budget totalling N99,221,503,569.93 into law, yesterday.
This new budget would cover the new national minimum wage for civil servants in the state, the local government election, provision of school uniform to primary school pupils and review of cost of projects, occasioned by the skyrocketing prices of goods and services.
The supplementary budget is made up of N68.2 billion as personnel and overhead cost, while N30.9 billion is for capital expenditure.
After signing the supplementary budget, the state’s total budget for the year 2024 stands at N536,559,816,357.84

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim.
Alhamdulillah, today, I join the good people of Jigawa State in celebrating the 33rd anniversary of our beloved state's creation. This landmark occasion is proof of our collective resilience, progress, and unity as a people.
On August 27, 1991, under the leadership of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Jigawa State was carved out of the old Kano State, setting us on a path of self-determination and development. Over the past 33 years, we have been blessed with leaders who, whether under military or democratic governments, have laid strong pillars for achieving the progress and development we enjoy today.
It has been a long way from where we started and every inch of that way, I have a feeling that I ought to take time off to say something on behalf of the Jigawa State Government to all our past and present leaders, traditional rulers, civil servants and the good people of Jigawa State who have played various roles in shaping this great state. Indeed, each administration contributed its quota towards putting Jigawa on the map as a dynamic and promising state today.
As your governor, I feel a great sense of humility knowing that ever since I took an oath on May 29, 2023, you have bestowed upon me your trust. I hope that we will be able to achieve what we have set out for ourselves in the 12-Point Agenda for Greater Jigawa. My administration’s focus is still on agriculture, education, health, Information Communication Technology (ICT), infrastructural development, environmental management, youth employment, economic empowerment, as well as poverty alleviation to ensure that our people get everything they need regardless of their social status.
Also, we are pleased to observe that Jigawa State is still the least indebted state in Nigeria. This is not a mere coincidence but the outcome of our careful management of resources and a clear determination for sustainable growth. I will remain committed to this fiscal discipline so that no naira spent will go without making some impact on our people.
Nevertheless, as we celebrate this milestone, we are also mindful of the challenges we currently face. This season’s heavy rainfall has caused devastating floods in various parts of the state. The government is doing everything possible to manage the situation. All available resources have been deployed to provide shelter, food, and health services to those affected by the floods. In this way, nobody shall be left behind during such a time when help is mostly required.
Looking ahead, I have faith that with your prayers and continued support we can overcome whatever challenges come our way until we make our dreams of a greater Jigawa become reality someday. Our state has great prospects ahead; together, we shall create a Jigawa that we are all proud of.
May Allah continue to bless Jigawa State with peace, progress, and prosperity.
Happy 33rd anniversary to all the people of Jigawa State!
Long live Jigawa State! Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
I was pleased to witness the wedding fatiha of Laila Atiku Abubakar and her husband, Saleh Maitala, at the National Mosque Abuja, today.
I felicitate with the parents and relatives of the couple, and I wish them a blessed marriage. - RMK
When Muhammadu Sanusi II was dethroned from Kano Emirship years ago, he clearly had one regret - the Kano Family Law Reform did not come to fruition, yet!
But MS II is no pushover! He’s known to ‘persist’, a quality I always admire in him. He had no idea he would ever get a second chance at the throne, but he had to ensure that project survives, beyond him.
And so it has come to pass, MS II returned to school, made a PhD thesis out of the Kano family law and the reform he proposes.
A thesis is there, for this generation or the next or the next after next, whatever. Whenever Arewa is ready, at its own time, to read and do the ‘needful’.
Here’s a challenge to all of us, to make whatever change we want to see, in whatever way feasible to us. Even a single step, is a step ahead!

This is Gulmo Primary School in Ita/Gadau LGA of Bauchi State. The State Govt has been building palaces for District Heads, not renovating schools for the citizens: Any wonder why the state has one of the highest number of out of school children? @buharingwaggo@JibrinIbrahim17
Following the approval of a new national minimum wage by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I have inaugurated the Kano State Advisory Committee on the New National Minimum Wage, to plan the implementation of the new N70,000 minimum wage, as agreed with the organized Labour.
Conducted by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, on my behalf, I emphasized the committee's responsibility to plan effectively for the newly approved minimum wage and to present a practical recommendation for the state government’s immediate implementation.
I assure all workers that the implementation of the new minimum wage would increase the development of Kano State across all sectors, as the welfare of workers is an important priority of our government.

In our bid to boost healthcare provision in Kano, I officially inaugurated the first round of the 2024 Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health Week (MNCHW).
MNCHW aims to improve healthcare indices through focused preventive and curative interventions that enable mothers and children to thrive and develop.
The week-long event provides an opportunity to deliver essential health services to mothers, newborns, and children via the existing health system, reinforcing the free maternal and child health services available at Primary Health Centers and Secondary hospitals in the state.
The Kano State Government remains steadfast in implementing health programs aimed at improving the lives of its citizens. This includes a strong commitment to Nutrition Promotion Programs, Polio Eradication, and enhancements in Routine Immunization.
Our administration remains committed to reducing maternal and child mortality rates and controlling preventable diseases such as Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPDs), Malaria, HIV, and Tuberculosis. - AKY
We couldn’t finish our visit to Gwarzo LG without paying a visit to the Gwarzo General Hospital.
This hospital, which is one of the oldest general hospitals in Kano State, serves a large number of people from Kano North and parts of Southern Katsina State.
In our bid to boost its capacity, we are currently in negotiations to compensate its surroundings, as we are expanding it further. We shall also recruit more qualified hands to staff it.
I am grateful to the good people of Gwarzo Local Government for making Monday a memorable day. - AKY
From commissioning the 5KM road, we checked the progress of the construction of Hawan-Ganji-Sabon Layin Kara-Badari-Kadari rural access road, which is progressing at impressive pace.
I commend the contractors for their prompt resumption to the site.
We also had the opportunity to assess the construction of a major bridge in Getso Town, also of Gwarzo LG, which is at advanced stage. - AKY

Today, I hosted contractors handling the construction of 5 kilometer roads in the 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State to an interactive meeting at the Government House.
In my remark, I noted that although it’s pleasant that 3 of such projects have either been completed or reached advanced stages of development, we have noted that an overwhelming number of the projects are stagnating.
I also assured the contractors that we have been able to sort out most technical issues that surround the projects that were abandoned for the previous 8 years, and they all now have a clean slate to enable them complete their job.
This engagement was truly progressive, and we expect to see remarkable progress in the completion of this very important infrastructure across all the local government areas. - AKY
