The House passed Trump’s “SAVE America Act” (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act) on February 11th requiring a passport or birth certificate to vote in federal elections. The bill has not passed the Senate yet. If it does, 21 million Americans will be at risk of losing their voting rights. Only 1 in 3 Black Americans have a valid passport. Nearly half of Black Americans under 30 don’t have a driver’s license with their current name and address. Millions of women whose names changed after marriage don’t have matching documents.

This isn’t about election security. Noncitizen voting is already illegal and virtually nonexistent. This is about creating barriers that look neutral on paper but devastate our communities at the ballot box. They’re not protecting democracy. They’re dismantling it. This is voter suppression in plain sight.
