We are fortunate that we could afford the stay and that hotels in our area were doing their best to help evacuees. I’m not saying that these are the only reasons for everyone. Just saying that it’s not a simple choice for everyone. 3/3

Wanted to share this for ppl wondering why more people didn’t evacuate from Ian. I had to evacuate from my home in CA 2 yrs ago because of wildfire. First, you have figure out where to go. It’s not always obvious. We had to evacuate twice bc our first refuge had to evacuate. 1/

Second, it’s not cheap. We spent around $4K on two pet-friendly hotel rooms + food + other things you need. That was just under out deductible for our home owners policy. Having to leave your home is super expensive. 2/
