It’s been a helluva 24 hours on this platform.
Apparently I kicked a hornet’s nest when I said there’s no such thing as a “heritage American” in any meaningful racial sense. We’re all basically mutts anyway, and deriving a superiority complex from accomplishments to which you personally contributed precisely nothing is vainglorious nonsense.
What’s especially funny is how these self-appointed “heritage Americans” want to inherit every ounce of ancestral glory while accepting none of the shame.
They’ll claim the Founders’ courage, the pioneers’ grit, the soldiers’ sacrifice, and the builders’ industry as evidence of their own superiority.
But slavery? Jim Crow? Racial violence?
Whoa, whoa, whoa. That was other people. Nothing to do with me.
Sorry. If you want to take personal credit for everything your ancestors did well, you don’t get to suddenly become an individualist when the ugly parts come up.
Here’s my hot take:
Preserve whatever is actually worthy of preserving. Save the songs, traditions, recipes, stories of courage, faith, sacrifice, and resilience. Celebrate your heritage freely and without apology. But do it without the bigotry, too.
Leave the racist wickedness in the past where it belongs.
You do not honor your ancestors by embalming their sins.
Better yet, carry your own weight. Make your own contribution instead of freeloading off the accomplishments of people five generations before you while hiding behind a medieval-knight avatar and cosplaying at greatness from your couch.
Character is not hereditary. You want an inheritance worth bragging about? Live a life your descendants will someday be proud to inherit.
You can keep calling me every grotesque name you can invent. Rapist. Mudshark. Fat Jezebel whore. Whatever. I don’t give a flying fig what maladaptive keyboard cowards think or say about me. If the trans lobby couldn’t shut me up, you don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell.
I could be the worst woman who ever walked the earth and the argument would still be true:
You don’t get to cosplay your ancestors’ greatness while contributing none of your own.
Stay mad, fellas.
The truth is resilient.
@cleff413@DeDunkingPast You don't know what you are talking about. As long as we are being specific about which culture and the evidence is clear, halucigens are acknowledged, The Maya and their enemas, San Pedro at Chavin and many other examples.
@dalepartridge What blacks are murdering your daughters? I know most mass shooters in this country are young white males. You are making generalizations out of rare events.
@DrScotMSullivan Yes that is exactly correct. While it would be nice that there could be an ultimate resolution to injustice, Most of the time there is not. That reality.
The 10 Benefits of Being an Atheist
1. You stop wasting your time, money, energy, and brain cells on useless religious bullshit and empty rituals.
2. Your life is finally free from stupid fears of imaginary demons, jinn, hellfire, and an angry sky daddy watching you jerk off.
3. This life becomes priceless. No fake afterlife means you actually treasure every moment instead of treating it like a shitty waiting room.
4. You escape the built-in religious hatred, no more forced misogyny, homophobia, ethnocentrism, tribalism, or treating outsiders like garbage.
5. Your brain stays open and honest. You can learn real shit without some 2000-year-old book cockblocking your intelligence.
6. You never have to embarrass yourself defending talking snakes, virgin births, global floods, or other Bronze Age fairy tales.
7. You become a decent human because you actually give a fuck about people, not because you’re scared of eternal torture.
8. You quit the pointless prayer addiction and start doing real shit that actually fixes problems.
9. You see the universe for what it is: cold, indifferent, and fucking beautiful, without pretending some insecure cosmic tyrant is in charge.
10. You live without guilt or shame for being human. No more self-hate for natural thoughts, desires, or doubts. Fuck that eternal damnation nonsense.
Be atheist. Be happy ❤️
@JoelWebbon Your children will probably rebel and become atheistic humanists, feminists, communists, etc. and it will drive you crazy, and you will die miserable. And I will laugh.
Two of the loudest anti-science movements of our time appear to be fighting completely different things.
One fears vaccines.
The other fears chemicals.
But listen to their arguments long enough and you notice something remarkable:
They’re basically the same argument.🧵1/
@BretWeinstein And what about religion? What has it done besides fail humanity miserably? It can't even stop its believers from rape, murder, or adultery.
@DocPriyamMD Avoiding America's typical fast food restaurants is one of the most valuable ways to start eating healthier. People can argue they have healthier choices on the menu, but if you walk through those doors often enough you are more likely to choose one of the unhealthier options.
@MikeBales I have spent time in a predominantly Muslim country, Egypt, where they are very hospitable. Nobody forced their religion on me. As long as we maintain a secular political policy to guard against Islamists AND Christian Nationalist, we will be fine.
