Today we submitted to @Shell a letter endorsed by over 90 signatories across the Philippines and the world protesting the #carbonmajor's new gas plans in climate-vulnerable PH. Shell is looking to build its LNG terminal in biodiversity-rich VIP, and we say NO WAY! #ShellOutOfVIP
The Verde Island Passage is considered to be the 'Amazon of the Oceans' because of its high concentration of marine life. Sadly, the ongoing oil spill puts the Oriental Mindoro side of this marine corridor in peril.
CRITICAL NEED FOR INFORMATION AND AWARENESS RAISING AMONG #OilSpill IMPACTED SITES (1/3)
A team deployed by CEED earlier this week engaged with communities in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro to learn more about their situation and to share awareness on known impacts of oil spills.
Just how much toxic fuel could possibly spill to the Verde Island Passage and to the coastal areas surrounding it? 800,000 liters of industrial oil is equivalent to the amount of fuel in 16,000 cars with full tank.
and thousands of other marine organisms to lingering impacts brought by this disaster.
We call on the government to expedite clean-up operations and put a stop to all fossil fuel activities surrounding the Verde Island Passage.
800,000 liters of industrial fuel is in danger of spilling over the Verde Island Passage due to the sinking of a tanker off the coast of Mindoro. The planet's most biodiverse marine habitat is facing grave danger, exposing all of its 300 coral species, 1,700 fish species (1/2)
The Verde Island Passage is in grave danger due to massive amount of oil posing grave environmental impact to marine life and the health and livelihood of communities surrounding it.
⚠️⚠️⚠️ The water tests done by the Philippine Coast Guard Recent show that traces of industrial fuel has now been found in the waters of Naujan, Oriental Mindoro. The MT Empress Princess was carrying 800,000 liters of industrial oil before it eventually sunk. ⚠️⚠️⚠️
Climate bombs developed by climate majors like @Shell would not be possible if banks like @BNPParibas were not there to finance the company that develops them.
Let's put an end to the destructive activities of BNP Paribas with #BNPCase
👉 https://t.co/PMnXVlZsMG
@BNPParibas is a global financier of the 8 oil and gas majors including @Shell. To stop its support for the development of climate bombs, the NGOs of the #BNPCase are launching the 1st worldwide legal action against a bank 👉 https://t.co/PMnXVlZsMG
💥 BREAKING - We are officially suing @BNPParibas, the most polluting bank! For the first time, a bank will have to go to court to answer for its contribution to climate change! 🧶

#Shell made a record £32 billion profit.
Meanwhile people face ruinous energy bills.
Meanwhile climate breakdown drives droughts, floods & famines.
They profit, we suffer.
It can't go on.
It's time to #ShutDownShell.
Incredible projections by @x_feral on Shell's London HQ.
Almost 2/3 of Shell’s profits in the final three months of 2022 came from its gas business. Its ₱3.5 billion LNG terminal project in Batangas is a testament to the obscene greed of fossil fuel companies with no disregard for the climate impacts and communities it will affect.
Shell’s banner year is good for its stockholders but bad for everyone else. Every dollar of profit to shareholders represents untold misery to everyone else as they dealt with the effects of the climate emergency, for which Shell bears a great responsibility. #ShellOutOfVIP
Fossil gas is NOT welcome in the Verde Island Passage.
This is the story of communities, youth, fisherfolk, and environmental defenders fighting to #ProtectVIP.

"The urgency of protecting life on earth still escapes the attention of corporations whose profits seem to outweigh any environmental responsibility."
Fr. Edwin Gariguez of #ProtectVIP makes it clear: @Shell is NOT welcome on our coasts. #ShellOutOfVIP

Dirty gas projects are sprouting all over the Verde Island Passage. #CarbonMajor Shell also wants to build its own LNG terminal in the #AmazonOfTheOceans, placing in peril the livelihood of millions and the home of thousand of species.
We want #ShellOutOfVIP!
We took a letter to the London Shell HQ from communities defending the Amazon of the Ocean - which inevitably they did not accept...
Shell wants to profit from new gas in this biodiversity hotspot but won't listen to those who will suffer devastation as a result.
#ShellOutofVIP
“There are tens of thousands of us who rely on small-scale fishing and many more on ecotourism... These sectors will be adversely impacted by the construction of an LNG terminal.”
Gas in VIP will only harm ☠️ livelihoods 🚣 and life 🐟. #ShellOutOfVIP!

🌎 We are in solidarity with local communities, fisherfolk, and youth calling for the protection of the Verde Island Passage and strongly opposing @Shell’s LNG terminal plan! 🚫 #ShellOutOfVIP 🚫

"#COP27 is being held during the anniversary of one of the worst climate catastrophes the PH have ever seen...it is crucial to hear the demand to compensate impacted communities for the loss and damage that they have experienced. Our banner today demands that Shell pays up.”
We're outside Shell's office in solidarity Filipino activists who are resisting gas drilling in the Verde Island Passage.
Shell's gas is a disaster for the Philippines & the world, wrecking lives & driving lethal climate breakdown.
