@wekesa_amos So true. I find that very few of our leaders or politicians honestly think of growing the economy. They focus on everything but that. I don’t know if it’s because the system teaches us to focus elsewhere…
Ugandas challenges
Points to note:
We are 45.9m from Ugandans according to ubos and those are 45.9m diverse interests and because they are diverse interests, conflict will never end.
45.9m population represents 45.9m mouths to feed, to secure, to medicate, transport, to educate etc.
We can only reduce conflict but we can’t fully do away with it and if we want to wait until there isn’t a single conflict before we start thinking about the economic growth, then we shall be fooling ourselves.
Some of you say oh Wekesa, we shouldn’t market Uganda until the country is totally without conflict, you are totally wrong because we must eat as we try to solve our internal problems.
For example, political disagreement will never kill as many people as poverty does and where there is abject poverty, human rights abuse simply increases.
What countries generally do is fight to grow the economy so citizens can have economic stake in their countries and that reduces conflict but doesn’t fully do away with conflict.
People that live in glass houses hardly throw stones! Heard of that saying?
So anyone fighting hard to grow the economy is actually solving problems related to potential societal conflict and must be supported at all costs but still a Critical is what solves that.
And when bad things are happening in society, fight to be on the side that is doing the opposite. When there is so much negative news, create the positive news because it helps.
Lots of people think that simply making comments can change society, yes make comments as you get your hands dirty by working as well. The Chinese say talk can’t cook rice. It’s not enough.
Like I have always said, a period like this of politics, engage those potential leaders to explain how they will grow the economy and doesn’t matter whether they are opposition or ruling and if you are just playing around during this period, do expect a functional country.
You must unfortunately know how economies grow before you engage future leaders about what they will do to grow the economy.
