Many in the Indian right believe India saw no progress before 2014. Some in the Indian left believe that progress (esp. for the poor) decelerated after 1982/1991. Both are demonstrably untrue.
There are maps, and then there are maps.
When someone is honest with data, they strive to design maps that faithfully represent the underlying information, capturing patterns and nuances as accurately as possible.
But when the goal is to push a simplistic agenda, the map (or any statistical chart) is reduced to nothing more than a political tool, distorting the truth to fit a bias.
